So I could make all of you collectively flood the forums nonstop with every post, asking CCP to make bringing back a game mode similar to the original Skirmish 1.0 a top priority; Skirmish 1.0 had one team attacking while the other defends, and the attackers had to destroy preliminary objectives called defense relays before the next set of objectives (null cannons) were unlocked. The devs said its coming, but it isn't a priority at all. It was the best thing about Dust for me when I started in the closed beta. It has been gone for too long and needs to be a serious priority.
I'm currently working on a way to hack the consciousness-transfer implants us immortal clones have in our brains to somehow broadcast my mind to every merc so this collective forum QQ whine-fest about Skirmish 1.0 can happen, but mind control via quantum entanglement is hard work. |

Cut my teeth on that map. Running up that hill to the bridge to try to take the gun at the top. Advance to the building with the pipes and then down to the supply depot across the street from the objective. Hack it and hold it to the time counts down. Then we would see the MCC move towards the city as we took the remaining depot on the last hill overlooking the city. Running gun fights to the city to start the hack. Good timesGǪgood times. |

To clarify, it was a gamemode with two maps in one. A network of canyons led up to a large open area with eithe Communications or Biomass in it, with the relays in Craterlake needing to be destroyed before the redline changed and the next set of installations deployed. All the while the Null Cannons fired upon the MCC and the MCC scooted across the sky. It would stall at the Relays if they still existed, and would ramp its speed up if all the cannons were out.
It was the single best gamemode in DUST, past or present, and we shall hold a candlelight vigil for it's demise every year... |

Never played it, but everything I've eve head says yes.
While I like the constant back and forth of current skirmish, clearly being on the attacking or defending side means both sides are focused on the objective, which leads to better games IMO.

Yes we want to bring something like it (maybe not exactly the same, but close) back. It's not really a matter of "this isn't important". KAGE, I like you - you often produce very high quality threads and posts.
But CCP shouldn't be ruled by mob rule on the forums. And so a constant deluge of thread demanding feature X or Y shouldn't be sufficient for CCP to start developing that feature immediately. It's already obvious that CCP see value in bring Skirmish 1.0 back to Dust. However they have to prioritise that work against re-working and expanding the core of the game so that it does not remain mediocre.
Remember that there is likely a massive opportunity cost in producing a SK1.0 mode. |

Assuming direct control. We are the Harbinger of your perfection.
We will propose to our development team that a 'roadmap' is too mainstream and that a puzzle, with associated pieces for content and features, is the proper way to establish communication between our team and the community.
Releasing control. This form is redundant. |

Need Bacon Need Bacon And if peeps are gonna stay and play DUST and tumble down the rabbithole in the middle of a firefight and move to New Eden......they gotta have damn fine bacon.
Like wild pig pit-roatsed bacon.
As per Hans's post keeping us in the loop: http://hansshotfirst.blogspot.ca/ CCP has 2 big priorities right now - fixing the core and player retention.
In terms of New Eden and player retention, DUST does not have what EVE has, namely free-roam in a vast, dark, dangerous and heart-breakingly beautiful universe. That means it all comes down to the matches and modes.
CCP needs to bring up their game here and use every trick in the book and then burn to book for light as they plunge into the game-design unknown. It's not enough to make maps and modes that mimic the big shooters out there - ours have to tell the New Eden story while providing and arena for visceral, creative gameplay. Our maps and modes have to tell a compelling story that will be etched into players' minds for years to come - Skirmish 1.0 acheived some of this, and that's why players are crying out for it. But CCP can do even better than that.
Now that's a lotta fancy-sounding kittenshit, and the only reason i'm inflicting it on peeps is that we've seen it's possible with Skirmish 1.0, which had good enough bones to tell a story on. The battles need to move, need rolling combat, need feints and forays and flanks and rekkies, need stand-and-deliver buying-time moments, need interludes when a deep and soulful silence comes across the battlefield, preceding by only a few moments an escalation to Ragnarok.
That is combat in New Eden for immortal soldiers with no way home. |

+1 to Skirmish 1.0, from what I've heard about it. It sounds like a very dynamic play mode, and I'm curious why it was pulled. Essentially, we have 2 game modes now: Team Deathmatch and King of the Hill. The Deathmatch has a short version and a long version. The King of the Hill has a single checkpoint or multiple ones. Aside from two game modes, there's nothing else. No PVE, no sparring grounds, no "skirmish 1.0," no 2v2s, 4v4s, 6v6s, "lone wolves," or slayer.
Many FPS players aren't just interested in big team battle deathmatch, and I honestly can't see that adding more variety to the core of the Dust experience--pvp--would hurt retention numbers. Some of the best fun I've had playing Halo was running 2s with a good friend of mine, which was of course mixed in with big team battle, slayer, team deathmatch, king of the hill, etc. Variety is in order here.
Certainly new maps are preferable, but maximizing the use of the current maps with relatively easy to implement new game modes could do nothing but help player numbers. |
