Chromosome (spelling corrected) had better field of view, but worse graphics, slower feeling gameplay (partly because of the better FOV), and had just as many complaints about balance as we get now, even though there were less weapons to complain about. It also had horrible draw distance (but at least it was consistent, instead of the random mess we have now). It also had slightly worse framerate issues, and while hit detection was better than pre-1.4 Uprising, it wasn't quite as good as we have now.
The field of view got toned down in order to make better graphics possible with a greater draw distance (that got broken in 1.4), but it really should have stayed, because being able to see more was awesome and I miss it. I want wider FOV again, even if they have to dial the graphics down a little to keep draw distance up.
We need much more CONSISTENT draw distance, so players can reliably see any target that can threaten them. Just because you can't hit an enemy, doesn't mean you have no need to light them up and know where they are. My Shotgun has always been primarily an anti-Sniper weapon, but I can't do that if I have draw distance and target sighting limited by my weapon's CQC-only range. If I'm getting shot from anything beyond AR range, I probably can't see my attacker at all. It also doesn't help that with some weapons, enemies getting TOO CLOSE will vanish for no apparent reason, and some weapons appear to be limited to their optimal range instead of their maximum range like they should be. Even though we didn't have the same maximum draw distance in Chromosome, it was better than 1.4's crazy "maybe yes, maybe no" approach to things.
IMPORTANT STUFF: -Better FOV than we have now (preferably with a higher turn speed so it doesn't feel slower, because wide FOV has that effect). -Consistent and high draw distance. -Constant and relatively high framerate. At this point, I'd settle for the old SDTV standard of 24FPS if that was a baseline instead of a maximum that you might hit if you're really lucky.
NOT IMPORTANT: -Graphics. Seriously, tone the effects down - just a little. I don't care if you have the perfect max-resolution HD if you're struggling to break 10FPS and can't see enemies 20m in front of you. |
