Advanced tier GEK-38 Assault Rifle compared against an advanced tier 'Sinwarden' CRD-9 Assault Scrambler Rifle for recoil on a Commando suit.
Things to keep in mind:
- Assault Rifle Operation (the skill required to even use the damned things) reduces recoil by 5% per level. I am receiving a 25% reduction. - Assault Rifle Sharpshooter reduces dispersion (not seen in this video) by 5% per level. I am receiving a 10% reduction.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG0rYoBeVKc&feature=youtu.be
As you can see from the video, the Assault Rifle and Assault Scrambler Rifle have similar levels of recoil, the scrambler rifle having slightly (and I mean -SLIGHTLY-) higher. However, at 1/3 to 1/2 of the magazine the Assault Rifle flops in terms of performance due to extreme muzzle climb while the Assault Scrambler Rifle receives absolutely no change. Using the readout of the Turret on the upper right of the weapon in the first demonstration, you can gauge this despite the low resolution of the video by watching the gap between the readout and the sight of the weapon.
You will notice that, even with my skills, there is significant muzzle climb with the Assault Rifle and absolutely none with the Assault Scrambler Rifle. So while the Assault Rifle has less recoil (again, this is going to be almost entirely from my skills) the Scrambler Rifle has absolutely no muzzle climb and you can fire away freely. With only Scrambler Rifles Operation 1, overheat isn't even an issue as it takes me almost two entire magazines to overheat it - so kiss that argument goodbye.
And now I'm going to run the same test with a brand new character with no AR skills for those non-believers. |

buuuttttt......
ARs have gotten out of hand, you HAVE to use it to be competitive, anyone who ISNT using it competitivly and is using something else would stand to gain from switching to either the AR or the ASR/SR
so while i respect that the difference between them is marginal... that doesnt make it any better
and when i say AR i mean all 3, AR/SR/ASR.
So, essentially what your saying is this isn't related to the Assault Rifle anymore - it's related to anything that isn't a specialist weapon? Just the bread and butter of the races?
DPS is largely the same and each have their own strengths and weaknesses. This was thrown up because I'm tired of people making false assumptions about weapons they really have no clue about because it just happens to be useful and used by other players who are effective with them.
Range is also a significant factor as Assault Scrambler Rifles, while having the same optimal, have larger fall off range - so by all rights it's a better weapon with the single exception of low armor damage. Of course, this isn't something you really have to worry about considering that it's forefront design and philosophy is for use against shield tankers anyway and considering how many of them are left over from the FotM Caldari Logi, you shouldn't have a problem at all.
I've yet to see any information provided that gives legitimate reasoning, let alone with accurate information, as to why the Assault Rifle should be nerfed. |

Rei Shepard wrote:The counter to the Muzzle climb on the Assault Scrambler isnt the overheating its the Dispersion, while on your vid the AR jumps up after a set of rounds fired, the Ascr jumps more from side to side.
But if you use the AR, your opponent is long dead before it starts to climb, where with the Ascr you can miss a distant target because the gun jumps left to right.
Though this little bit of dispersion or muzzlie climb is very very little, look up APB R Tommygun and then get back on here and talk about muzzle climb.
I esclusivly use the Imperial Scrambler because 1) i dont want to use a gun everyone else uses and 2) the Ascr is extremely underpowered and while the Semi Auto scrambler is a ***** to use at cqc i manage with it.
Again. Skills. I have a video uploading right now showing the effects without those skills using an Aurum 'Blindfire' Assault Rifle so that there is no reduction in recoil.
Edit: Also, as I explain in this thread, dispersion is almost entirely cosmetic and not an actual game element with a hit scan system:

Wow. This is unbelievable - so basically anything with a high fire rate that can you can ADS with is OP?
So, what's the alternative? We all use Shotguns and Sniper Rifles? Team Fortress 514 much? |

Easy. Flux Grenade (removes equipment!) + Mass Driver.

Oh I did'nt want to argue against the general statement about HROF weapons beeing to accurate when in ADS. I just wanted to point that most people think this behavier is only likned to the Gallente Assault rifle which is not the case. In general there need to be more Recoil and dispersion on both weapontrees and the recoils/dispersion should kick in ealier. If you then give both rifles a different Range and DPS profile we are almost done. Right now the biggest difference between the two weapons is the look, the accessibility and the efficacy rating vs shields...imho not enough to justify two seperate weapons
I disagree. Recoil and dispersion need not be touched if you apply the reductions in other places to make the disparity between the weapons more meaningful to their philosophy. They have the same optimal range, but the Assault Scrambler Rifle has a larger fall off - but both do the same DPS. Suffice to say, the Assault Rifle could stand to lose some range and either gain some damage (unlikely) or the Scrambler could lose some.
Those changes would make the weapons more unique and you wouldn't even have to touch recoil/dispersion - despite them being entirely cosmetic and fantastical elements anyway considering hit scan is just a system of vectors intersecting with different things. |

not a theory... ive spent nearly 2 days doing it... this felt more like cheating then the good ole invisable shotgunner wars were infamous for. (most peopel dont know how to stop cooking the granade though, they just kind of fall over and die....) the point is that for that slip second while your standing their cooking, ive poped out and are already shooting, it takes less then 2 seconds to kill anyone who isnt brick tanked... and yuve just lost half that putting your granade away/ throwing it.

As stated before in another thread - I deal in facts and numbers, not word of mouth and speculation. Someone said the Scrambler Rifle has more recoil so I went out of my way to show the difference between the two and wouldn't you know it, now that I have, everyone is tying the SRs into the mix and wanting them nerfed as well.
This is RAMBUNCTIOUS. The reason those people suck is because they don't know how to use their weapon effectively and I can almost guarantee that they weren't using it in a squad-based environment which is probably what it was intended for (which basically classifies ANY specialization weapon).
You can't run up on someone with a mass driver and expect to get results. You attack from afar and have the benefit of other team mates shooting at them.
You can't gun down someone with a Laser Rifle and not expect to be vulnerable when you're aiming down the sights or engaging at close range.
These weapons WERE NOT DESIGNED for people to run up and die at 30 meters and then whine and ***** about the assault rifle doing it's job - they're uninformed players who's sole instinct is that if it killed them (the entire point of this game might I add) then it MUST be over-powered because there is no possible way that they did something wrong.
Too many people grew up with World of Warcraft and got a reward everytime they did something. Your average gamer foams at the mouth when you mention "patience" or god for ****ing bid "think". What in the bloody hell did you expect to happen if they just died when they attacked AN ASSAULT RIFLE head on???????? |

If you think the AScR is better in terms of "kick", then you need to lay off the shrooms.
Lmfao - dude you're hilarious, AScR doesn't have any muzzle climb at all and I -JUST- proved that no more than an hour ago.

the problem is there istn any room for any specialised wepaons (mass driver possably being the exception with its ability to drive people out of cover) in any situation where you are building a squad your better off bringing in 6 assault rifles then any other configuration, for any job, the assault rifle does it better. we dont NEED other weapons for anything, their purpose is served by the assault rifle. ive seen over 9000 heavys runnign around with assault rifles now.... its getting out of hand that if you bring in another weapon your hurting your team. keep in mind, im not an AR user. i blow people up with explosives. so for me to swap to something im unfamiliar with and instantly enter DUST514 godmode was rather startleing i get that your angry, i get that you used to these kinds of arguments. im nto your average gamer. i m not afraid of dieing thousands of times to adjust to something. i use patience and planning to kill, my primary weapon of choice is remote explosives. i can use a novaknife scout and stay positive (even since 1.4 hit) ive been playing this game since closed beta and im one of the top 500 most active players in the game. i am personally fine... this AR BS isnt really efecting me too much outside of forcing me to use more scoutlike tactics and changing what my targets are. im STILL not going to use the damn AR, i hate the thing its just not a creative way to kill people... doesnt mean i dont want other people to use and enjoy it. i get that your angry at your average gamer... but your average gamer i am not.

Ah, well, maybe one day you'll see how awful it is to be assaulted by Mass Drivers and Forge Guns throughout the entire game. forge gun on a power point is uncounterable and a different class different leuge all together. mass drivers are my love... and skilled MD users will scare the crap out of most people when they show up in large numbers. these are just simple truths. ( i <3 the breach MD) maybe its a learning curve thing, maybe the AR is so dominating becuase new players can grab it and dominate with it, but specialised weapons require specialised tactics. maybe thats why the AR was so damn deadly in my hands yesterday, it felt dirty... it felt like i wasnt even giving thema chance to dive into cover. maybe it just signals the end of the old metagame and the birth of a very very cover intensive metagame where you arnt leaving cover unless you have a real plan on where your next piece of cover is. this would actually be great, we woud finally see the battle lines drawn and a no-mans land of death start to form. hell maybe this isnt even a bad thing at all. i suppose that i should probably just wait and see and do what i do best instead of worrying about what others do you have actually cinvinced me this isnt so bad afterall... maybe its the sleep dep thats made me go slightly ******** and defencive... im going to re-assess this... and find a new corp
Alternatively you could just use a weapon that requires more skill to use.. Not like it's shameful or anything. |

^ Scouts ... they move so fast.
Also, I'd like to win CQC fights with my severely range-restricted shotgun. When I do manage to get into optimal range, it shouldn't be a "toss up" if the guy happens to have an AR. I'd like to think my reasoning is legitimate, Aeon. I accept that you may not. You have my respect, either way. - Shotty GoBang
Shotty, I have a lot of respect for you - you know this. But I just can't validate that the Assault Rifle is just this end all weapon that is over powered... In fact, I'm convinced that everything else is just.. Broken!
I mean, everything being slated for comparison is radically different in play style and the like, you consider that the Shotgun has a maximum range of 15-20 meters; it's not exactly a fair contender, it's a bit out of the weight class.
The point I'm trying to make is that HMGs, Shotguns, hell even Mass Drivers all should have their niche -against- the Assault Rifle, they should be balanced AROUND the Assault Rifle for different fields because it is, after all, the bread and butter of both the modern soldier and the traditional shooter. If you spend your entire time trying to work the Assault Rifle into this little square of a niche between everything else it's just going to wind up buffing everything else by comparison to simply nerfing it.
Honestly - I say we just leave it be until Combat and Rail Rifles come in so that we have some kind of measurement to tie them all up to. |
