Hear frickin' hear. I lost four tanks today, one to tank PvP (Great match with a guy named Frisky Dingo) and three to AV players and I am now in the red after eight hours of casual gameplay throughout the day. That is ridiculous and utterly untenable. The AV players SOLO'D me. Can anyone explain the balance in me losing 760,000 isk worth of vehicle to 43,000 isk worth of invisible Wiyrkomi swarms from one guy?
Don't give me the rock/paper/scissors lecture. This game is supposed to be based on escalation and economics like EVE.* When I put out a HAV, I am literally putting two percent of my total net value out on the field and I deserve better results than being forced to hide from EVERYONE. If another player** destroys me with anything less than a concerted group effort, or the use of another tank, then the isk economy in this game is a complete failure and should scrapped entirely.
*Do not try to tell me that smaller ships beat bigger, better armed ones in EVE by themselves. In EVE, it's multiple cheaper ships using zerg tactics to wear down larger ones. In other words, TEAM WORK.
**Don't reference real world events like some mythological "One dude with a rocket launcher" allegedly taking out a tank. In 2003, When the second gulf war started, the United States deployed over 1,000 M1 Abrams tanks into the middle-east. By 2005, a grand total of 80 had been destroyed, or disabled. Those affected tanks were damaged by multiple attackers using RPG's and IEDs, targeting the sides, and hatches of those vehicles. Concerted effort, not "One dude with a rocket launcher." |

Right on, dude. Kiting is the skill benchmark now. My HAVs totally got kited into those fiery explosions by wry and cunning opponents who suckered me into my doom!
Oh, wait, no. They got got gibbed by solo players using lock-on targeting with overly damaging ordinance. Oh, but they did it skillfully! None of that not rendering in front of my HAV, and using set-it-and-forget-it targeting to score safe and easy War points. SKILL! |

That tired argument, again?
A tank player scoring a high number of kills in a pub match is no different from an assault gunner scoring a high number of kills. The only difference is that the tanker is playing mostly blind thanks to bad rendering, it takes him three full seconds to turn around, and he dies as quickly as you can blink. A tank driver who can get 20+ kills in a match is a flat out good player. Claiming that it's "easy" as you're doing is an arbitrary subjection that is completely false.
The tradeoff for limited ammunition in 1.5 needs to be higher defense. Brick and moan all you wish about the plague of 40-0 solo tankers who don't exist anywhere except in the fervid imaginations of their detractors, but back here on earth, tankers have gotten the shaft. 4,000 isk solo grenadiers are a bad joke in a game allegedly based on economics and escalation. Reduce a tank's killing power by all means, or curb it with a hard ammo cap, but don't sit there and claim that everything's hunky dory about one dude being able to break an allegedly heavily armored vehicle by himself with cheap, easily replaceable weapons.
I mean hell, if things are so balanced, why don't Nano hives spawn new tanks for me? |

Sarcastic, but you made a good point here. Portable shielding to hide behind. Chaff grenades that blind tanks, EMP rifles that disable vehicles, hacker modules that let scouts steal occupied tanks. Give tools to the infantry that reward skillful play, and make every game different, not just blanket damage that kills all the fun. |

It's just an idea. I doubt anyone would put in enough SP to do it, but if they did, it would make for some hilarious matches. Anyway, the point is to demonstrate that there are any number of ways the tank vs infantry game could go other than, pew-pew-boom>!<
To be clear, I do not want an invincible tank that takes a full team to kill, nor do I want to mow down dozens of people per match. What I want is performance reflective of my isk investment in the vehicle. Tanks are overvalued and under-performing. Those brilliant pilots who manage to go 18-0 aren't having any more fun than pilots who go 3-1, because of the stress involved in keeping their HAVS on the field. It was never the survivability of the tanks that was at fault, it was the grossly exaggerated killing power that made people hate them so much. |

Bro, come on. Be fair. I only started playing in late June, but I've been reading old threads on these forums, and tanks have not been a factor since March of this year, when they lost marauders, and then had their pg nerfed, and even had their rail range snipped. Infantry has easily dominated the field since then. If this game is being destroyed for anyone at this point, it is definitely not because of tanks. |

Void, you make some good points, but an insistence on some sort of archaic system of dueling is ridiculous. When I've popped tanks, I didn't bow first. When other tanks have popped me, they didn't give me a warning shot. If someone is open, you blitz them, that's just common sense. Don't you see how silly it is to castigate infantry for demanding the game be all about what they want, only to demand that other tankers follow your idea of decorum in order to be considered 'tankers?' sed was even burned the other day, everyone jumped on his case about doing that, he had no response.
If Sedio is fielding tanks, getting kills, and frustrating attempts by other tanks to kill him, then he is good. Why settle things mano-a-mano when you can settle for winning instead? I lost four tanks to Gatic Beawulf because he had a teammate using a swarm launcher. I thought the first two times were just sh*t luck, until I realized in the third round the dude was riding in Gattic's tank, and that they were partners. Dirty, underhanded, weasel tanking! F*ckin' brilliant! I feel nothing but admiration for such bastard tactics. Dude was doing whatever it took to protect his investment. |

Seriously though, I just want the stand and deliver gameplay that Wolfman promised for armor tanks in his 1.5 post. Slow brick, high defense, siege weaponry. Pushing objectives, providing a wall for my teammates, having something to do other than circling around the joint looking for other tanks or stray raspberries, and running away from everything else.
I'm not gonna get that game play in the current game, so I'm just gonna stop bitching about it, keep grinding sp and isk, and hope for the best next month. |

1. He wrote "specializations," not "weapons." The dedicated HAV pilot is his tank. If he can't make full use of his tank, then he's gimped. Imagine the fun of wearing a suit that crippled your ability to see your opponents unless at extremely close range even if your scanner is telling you that they're right there. Imagine the fun of having a dropsuit with maneuverability issues that cost one million isk to wear at standard level. Imagine the fun of speccing into this suit and not being able to utilize it until most of your skills are maxed at lvl 5, because everyone else is already spec'd into advanced and proto level counters for you, therefor denying you the ability to enjoy your character for months when you're a new player.
2. Have you considered that you two are probably on different time zones and that you might not be on when the other is asleep or working?
3. Speaker is a pretty chill guy. I haven't observed him going off on anybody. You on the other hand seem to have a hot temper.
