You should really think of your tank and survivability in terms of the function you are performing on the battlefield.
If the kind of damage that you are applying is instantaneous and short and bursty, you don't need a strong tank necessarily, but something that lets you get in and out of cover and regain the majority of your HP quickly. That if or this burst damage is applied at range, you'd probably balance speed and regen. This is good for laser rifles, scrambler rifles, MDs, TAC ARs, pistols and shotguns.
Brick (max HP) tanking is more for the kinds of damage that are applied in a more sustained way. High RoF weapons like the AR, AScR, HMG, SMG all seem to let you put a lot of DPS out for 5+ seconds or more, and generally don't need to favor manueverability as much as sustaining damage on target.
Finally you'd want to know the strength and weakness of your tank and use that to your advantage.
-If you aren't very fast, your weak point will be moving from one cover spot to the next. -If you have a stealth advantage, you should practice detecting and sneaking up behind players. -If you have low HP, try to learn how to apply your burst damage from a distance when you know other players can't hit you fast. -If you can regen your HP quickly, figure out how to make sure you are fighting in an area with a lot of cover you can dive in, out and around. -If you plan on just getting your WP through logi actions, survival and avoidance is key. Keep tabs on your friendlies, where they are and aren't
My std pub fit is an amarr ADV logi with 2 MLT shields 1 complex damage mod, 1 MLT powergrid and damp, then a stamina mod. I use a scrambler rifle and dren pistol. Then in my equipment i use an injector, flux repper, and flux scanner. Since it's mostly BPOs for me that suit stays under 15k. It only has about 425 HP, but I'm averaging 1000+ WP and a 1.5-2.0 KDR. However 75% of my WP is from support actions. |

For example I use a heavy+HMG, I'm a CQ fighter, I get demolished when I try to fight at range so as a consequence I don't even bother, I focus on getting as close to the enemy as quickly as possible through the route with the most cover. I close, I flank, I ambush, I go down swinging to provide teammates an oppurtunity to down the enemy. Know your role, stick to it, perfect it, and you'll be fine.
Which, it isn't great for their KDR, but when heavies know how to do this well, they are the ones who can help the team the most through a suicide attack. They can typically be picked up by a logi, will have more base health after this happens, and their high amount of HP mean, especially if they 1v1 an AR user, that the AR has to use MOST of their clip to down the heavy. |
