The peoples opinion is irrelevant, the only reason we're still allowed to have one is that it gives most people the illusion of being involved and actually having a say. If we ever act up a little too much, we'll see just how quickly they drop the axe.

CCN was blaming the event for Obama's inability to act on Syria currently.

Also Fox news buys most of its news from either washington post or AP and various other outlets, you can generally find out on most web articles the sourcing, as do most TV newses do they're generally second hand news.

Katrina was a culmination of a large number of screw ups from various organizations established by both parties and media over -exaggeration trying to make it look like the majority of new orleans was looted, robbed, raped, and never rebuilt. I partially blame hollywood, culture, and media overhype. Katrina overall was probably 'average' per populace on the social qualms and strife during a normal disaster.

Katrina happened, it was bad, it was certainly not bush's fault as dozens of non-fox newsies would make you believe (one of which thought that global warming caused rocks from space to fall more frequently...) but its done and over with and things are back to normal as they can get. I mean thats the goal in most post disasters, getting over it.

As for foxnews reporting there is truth to the matters.
For example IRS just hit up my legion (and apparently its US nation wide) and are trying to remove their tax exempt status so me and the other veterans are trying to prevent that right now and the amount of BS we're going through is just stupid and if IRS gets their way majority of the posts will have to likely shut down. So much for supporting our troops, eh?

It's easy to dismiss news miles away, not so much when it hits your neighbor or yourself.

Living in Louisiana, I can say that hurricanes Rita (another important one as it came immediately after) and Katrina, while devastating, were nothing compared to the element of people.

This part is important because you will never find it in the news, only from those of us who lived here. The National Guard took over relief services and Black Water was hired to guard the governmental buildings. Many of the Black Water guys were using Grizzly APCs armed with M2 Brownings and there were even more that were using ammunition that would be considered illegal - specialized anti-personnel rounds that were essentially hollowed and filled with mercury then coated with paraffin wax. I don't know the technical details, just what I was shown at a diner when they were trying to show their muscle.

But it just goes to show that people are more dangerous than anything else in the world. Can't even honor our dead anymore with the hostility that seethes in these forums. Syrians are not well armed. The native rebels largest complaints is they're fighting more foreigners than their own government. The government there is also having to deal with terrorist organizations as well. Either way the whole situation is massively complicated and its something I don't want to see nations get involved into yet.

The sad positioning is right now is there is no guaranteed way to throw the hammer down there and have someone you can trust come out on top. Far too many unknowns far too many agendas and so much broken glass down there.

Huh i was just making fun of this ridiculous rhetoric that a well armed populace is good for anything. Unless ofc you find prestige in having the worst murder rate in the world or enjoy that part of your public education is a good chance of getting blown away by emos. I find particular lolworthy the concept that legal guns is a good counter to illegal ones. Damn people are stupid as hell in places.
