Hello folks.
It's Mary! Just weighing in (a bit late, but that was due to some issues with a certain ban) on the 1.4 patch.
The Positives: I am loving the new maps. A little for the vehicles, a little for the infantry, nice design and enjoyable. Good job!
My AR can finally hit stuff reliably. It isn't as OP as some make it, but definitely better than the prior patch.
The Scanners feel more tactical. A plus!
The Negatives: Rendering is somehow worse for rail tanks. I can't seem to hit distant installations without them disappearing. Oddly enough, infantry within a certain range (about 75 meters) will pop in and out of rendering randomly. A DOWNSIDE to tactical play in my opinion.
I can't seem to play more than 3 matches with my friends without de-sync bug hitting the squad forcing the teammate to disconnect and either having him/her wait for the game to end or for us to all drop-reset-reform. When I feel like I am fighting Scotty the Matchmaking AI more than actually other players, it gets frustrating. Maybe this was your sneaky way of PvE CCP?
While my tank builds are more than sufficient for teamplay, it feels ridiculous that swarms can unload their whole clips into your face at the rate they can now. Who exactly were begging for swarm launcher buffs? Pre-1.4 they were fine. Well-balanced versus tanks and dropships, and did their jobs admirably versus LAVs. Now, they can do a massive amount of damage in such a short period of time, its ridiculous. I am adapting, but do I like it? No. Do I want the Swarms nerfed? No, but brought back to where they were. A fine balance between Infantry and Vehicle. More playtime and less graphs perhaps, CCP Shanghai?
Small Blasters by a huge margin and Large Blasters by a smaller margin have had their aiming broken. I need some numbers on the changes but they seem to be far less effective on Dropships and Tanks. My turreteers are telling me the aiming is less smooth and when aiming where the gun would hit, it now does not leading to a loss in my Air-to-Ground efficiency.
The New Dropship Camera is HORRIBLE. The whole KBM 'dynamic' thing is pretty ridiculous. We have lost our peripheral vision and when I hit afterburners now and push forward, I cannot see ANYTHING! Not anything critical, but each piece of input from our surroundings we are denied is an extra moment an AV can level our precious ship and its cargo!
Well, I will soldier on and adapt. Figure out the ins and outs of the buffs, but I can't help but feel with each new patch the game gets uglier. When I learned that you could set the graphics lower, my initial reaction was 'it is WORSE??'. Each patch... the game gets less pleasant to the eye and it becomes obvious that CCP doesn't understand their product. That the product they wanted to launch should have waited for the PS4 or launched on the PC, and that the people they hired for their product would have done a better job. Also, the F2P model gives little incentive for Devs to really put their passion into a product. Perhaps a subscription or a mandatory one charge model?
