22 million sp player here. been here since the first week of open beta.
that saidGǪ like many playersGǪ i've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, for this game to becomeGǪ something. .. something different, unique, and compelling. and i'm losing faith. fast.
BUT. all the elements are here for a fun and engaging game. it's just, everyone seems caught up in the core mechanics debate, as well as in the push to stamp out the remaining bugs to bring this game to the level of a 'triple A shooter'. whatever that means.
in the meantime, the bigger picture is being lost. the bigger picture being, that GTA is coming out in the next few weeks, and destiny is just down the road.
this game will die unless a drastic reevaluation of the game is made. my main gripe is that every battle feels meaningless. every battle you play is solely to gain isk and sp. GǪ. which was fine, when this was a 'beta'. when it seemed like we were all playing a 'free' game that happened to have above average, halo-like graphics. GǪ but that **** doesn't cut it any more.
GǪGǪGǪ.. GǪGǪGǪ.. what i LOVE most about the 1.4 changes is the star map to the right of the battle finder, as you are deploying from your quarters. however, the immersion it adds is absolutely meaningless. i understand that it is supposed to add a sense of presence, in the vast eve online universe. but in its current state, it's just eye candy. GǪ and bad eye candy at that. anyone else notice that it doesn't zoom into the solar system / planet correctly? it just zooms into the center, and the next lower level down transitions into view. how hard would it have been to spend 3 more seconds on it and pan the map so that the direct center is over the area you're about to zoom in on? GǪ but i digress GǪ.
... the reason i LOVE it. is because it is a step in the right direction. towards a rethinking of what this game is, and what it could be.
personally, i hate the idea that i click 'find battle' and my consciousness is beamed to anywhere in the entire universe. that. is. so god. damn. stupid.
i want my home, my merc quarters to have meaning. i want to have a vested interest in the places i'm fighting for.
here's my hope: come version 1.x, there's an event, akin to the dreadnought crash. something that the lore describes as disrupting the galaxy's clone economy. something that leaves the NPC corporations with a seemingly now finite amount of resources to devote to fighting. GǪ what i want, is for the battle finder system to be completely revamped.
i want, the absolute lowest tier of fighting, to take place in what is currently the 'battle academy'. the 'battle academy' should take place on a single planet, and be accessible to everyone at all times, via the near instantaneous 'find battle' interface. however, it should institute severe limits on the gear that can be used, and provide awful isk payouts. the 'battle academy' should take place on a single planet, and all new mercs should be given the decrepit minmatar quarters and be located on this planet to start.
i want the next step up, to feel as though it had been earned. maybe after winning a match, and coming in first on your team, an NPC corporation approaches you and asks if you'd like to take contracts from them in the future.
the next step up, should be actual battles on planets still close by to the academy, but for your corporation, against another, for fairly low stakes. these should offer higher payouts and provide an opportunity break into factional-like warfareGǪ
that is to say, i wish NPC corporations would act like Civ 5 dictators do. if you accept to take contracts from corp A, as well as corp B, and corp A hates corp B, they should send an in game mail to you, along the lines of, "your services are no longer required". or, depending on the circumstances, threaten you with blacklists and sanctions.
if you keep working for a corporation, you should have the opportunity to buy or rent different merc quarters, on different planets, further and further away from the academy. it should be through these different merc quarters that your consciousness should be able to be 'beamed' greater distances, with perhaps, more priority being given to the current planet that you're located on.
ideally, what i want, is for the lucrative battles to be done for a NPC corporation of your choosing, AND, be a match that is put together by a series of sophisticated matchmaking algorithms. i wish the merc quarters would act as a 'beacon' in the surrounding solar system, broadcasting to your friendly NPC corporations that you're available for battle (think dark souls player invasions). geo-locating your merc quarters should be a meta game within the game. trying to position your homes so that you can defend or attack the most turf for your chosen NPC corporation. you should be able to set your base hire price, the price you're paid if you win, and the matchmaking system should be sophisticated enough to pull together the most cost-effective team of mercs from a static wad of cash, using a combination of w/l ratio, total war points, and total matches played for that corporation.
this should be a better form of npc warfare. additionally, i wish i could subscribe to a newsletter telling me how all the NPC corporations in the universe are faring, to determine where i could make the most impact, or conversely earn the most isk, or advance the fastest.
blah. a man can dream.
TLDR: go back to whining about aim assist |

maybe CCP is moving in this direction. maybe my hopes and dreams will be villified.
i just noticed today, that in that eye candy 'searching for battle', it brightens and pulses the solar system it's looking for battle in.
CCP. NEXT STEP. LISTEN: disable all those solar systems. allow us to spend our ISK, to light those solar systems up, by buying either multiple merc quarters on various planets, or just some kind of conciousness beaming apparatus privilege.
this would solve all kinds of problems, such as, games being filled with blueberries... blueberries should congregate in lower payout solar systems.... you should have to pay a higher premium to have access to higher payout solar systems, and thus, voluntarily pit yourself against better players.
give us the CHOICE, to either pummel blueberries in ******, low payout systems, or put everything on the line in higher payout, higher risk areas.
it's so simple! come on CCP! |
