Agreed. As soon as i get my Proto Laser , i will just get prof and stick with the ELM.
An Optimal range increase WOULD be a big difference without breaking the laser. |

Hmm well thought. This plus a Sniper SKill addition that increases range by 5% per level would buff the laser rifle enough to make it good,but not OP.IMO that is. +1 to D.Bored. |

Its not needed. The laser rifle in chromosome was broken. It was EZ mode specially considering how broken damage mods were. Lasers are good now,for everyone with the skill/interest to use them.
If you revert them back to chromosome, many scrubs will drop their ARs and start using Lasers. Then we will have all the classic Dust QQ threads. Then CCP will take out the Nerf Hammer.
And we will be AGAIN,without lasers. So no , we dont want the chromosome laser again. |

You don't understand how the thing even works do you... For increasing damage you have to level up proficiency. The operation skill decreases cooldown time, not heat build up. So if the laser goes to overheat, it'll spend less time in the overheat animation. Sure it's an useless skill but w/e. Many other weapons have useless operation skills, like the Assault Scrambler Rifle. If you want more damage from the laser, you'll have to invest in the Amarr Assault skill, which reduces heat build up. This makes the laser overheat at 20-25 ammo (I don't really know since I don't have the proto suit), left at lvl 5 dropsuit skill, which means more time firing before overheat, which means more damage by continuous fire. It becomes like Chromosome's STD Laser Rifle, useful not OP, but requires huge SP sink. -XOXO I have and the basic LR still beats my viziam. Because they ALL have the same stats but that one little thing. I wasn't talking about the operation I was talking about how the diffrences between the LR, the ELM-7, and the Viziam are only the heat build ups. And heat build up doesn't matter when you both do the same damage at the same time within the same range and % eff.
Bro, it DOes matter. The LAser Rifle damage INCREASES, the longer you have the laser hitting somebody. So if you have less heat build up it means you can point the laser at someone for longer, this means in the long run, a lot more damage.
It IS true however that if both of you start shooting at the same time,both without proficiency nor damage mods, then the outcome of the battle will be decided by 2 things:
1st) The EHP of both players 2nd)The First one to overheat , looses.
These 2 get covered,by our beautiful Amarr assault suit.(My Amarr ADV runs 700EHP, more than enough running at 6.8...) And i have it at level 4, thats 20% less heat buildup ;) ) |

Also do not forget all we had were caldari suits, and most heavys were using the type 2 sheild suits. So the 90% of the playerbase were getting hit with 130% dmg from it.
It's an extremly niche weapon and that is still not king of its own niche. Is it better: yes! Does it kill: yes!
Slow and steady, next it needs its range curve adjusted. And Ccp needs to share the damage formula with us so we can look at numbers compared to other guns.
I went 35-2 with the LR yesterday. Again, it depends on the map: This was on LINE HARVEST,Where ,same as manus peak, the laser has no real counter ( well, you know except TAC/SCRAM RIFLES , and ARs but thats not the way is supposed to be XD)
AR are an annoyance BUT im going to be honest, at max range i dont feel ARS are REALLY hitting me so hard, the problem i have;my LR is not hitting Hard either and it IS my optimal range... |
