doors?
Option 1: A team captures an objective and doors open for people on that team exposing new interior play spaces. Doors stay open for a short time so enemies could follow them in, but then they might get trapped unless they put down a drop uplink.
Option 2: Any team captures a point and doors for a new space open up for everyone, perhaps exposing new objectives.
Option 3: A team holds a capture point for some length of time and doors open, perhaps exposing new objectives.
Option 4: Doors open for anyone but only when they are within some small distance from the door.
Option 5: Any of the above options open a "Garage Door" that clears a way for vehicles to enter the new space.
The general idea is that creating an opening door (or force field that drops, or whatever) would be easier to implement than terrain changes, multiple battlefields linked together, or any of the more complex ways to create dynamic change.
The downside consideration... would it be worth the development time to do this rather than something else.
Since we don't know what the something else is so that's a hard thing for us to decide.
General question then... Is this something folks would like? |

I would like maps with catastrophic events, such as a collapsing tower, to block routes, change strategy, etc. |

Skirmish 1.0 was real fun, enjoyed it a lot despite the bugs and such in closed beta. |

+1
It'd be great in the middle of an ongoing battle, We'll see an aircraft crashing in the battlefield. This i'd love to see. |

This I'd love to see. No question this would be neat but I was looking for something that would meet peoples' calls for more interior spaces and for Skirmish 1.0 - like battles with a minimum of development effort. Those big events would need a lot of work.
That makes the questions... "Would the doors proposal be worth it even if it wasn't a full Skirmish 1.0 implementation?" "Would the proposal meet folks desires for more interior spaces to fight in?"
The new maps are a lot better about interiors so we know the level designers can build those kinds of spaces and do a good job.

I want to see a map where objectives have infantry-only (or aerial-only ) access unless you hack a door control to let your vehicles in. That way, vehicles will be limited in effectiveness until someone opens the way for them. Having this kind of limitation would also help to balance more powerful vehicles because they'd be more reliant on infantry support. |

So keeping the OP in mind, I love the idea of functional map aspects (doors) that change and enhance the tactical and strategic gameplay.
Asking CCP whether doors, force fields or other such functional variations would be a big , small, or medium development effort seems a great question.
From my point of view, the return on investment ( if development effort wouldn't be overly large) could be very significant.
I love how CCP is using slots and modular approach to vary map diversity. It's a novel and efficient approach. And it makes gameplay very interesting. I expect doors and player controlled obstacles would only enhance that effort. |

That sounds cool, but I definitely want doors that slide open as you approach them. Too cool. |
