One of the main gripes about PC is that everyone can't participate, it feels like a chore to some players etc. I had an idea for a game mode that lets players of all skill and experience levels participate and contribute, hopefully without the drawbacks of the current PC matches. I'm not suggesting this should replace the current PC matches, but be added. I'd love some feedback on this:
Infiltration of enemy outposts The object of the attacking player or single squad of players is to infiltrate an enemy stronghold and steal something (resources), sabotage something (power plant, warehouse of resources, minor outlying clone production facilities) or kill something (a limited amount of clones). The mission takes place in a small map, located somewhere else than the main base of the district.
The stronghold's main defenses are a number of AI turrets and AI drones. These can be increased in numbers and quality by the owning corp investing ISK to buy/upgrade them. This could also open up a whole new branch of the skill tree, with skills for AI upgrades, drone programming, drone armour/shield, drone weapons etc. Possibly even a corp role - AI defenses manager or something like that.
The contents of the map could either be highly randomized to prevent too easy grinding, or possibly not randomized at all if the owning corp was allowed to construct the defenses themselves entirely, from a large set of building blocks (various fences, buildings, towers, turrets, drones, other defenses). The latter option would be extremely cool.
Another thing that would be cool for this scenario would be if the owning corp also could invest in surveillance equipment, alarms etc. This equipment would alert the corp's online players about the security breach, and allow them to deploy and fight the intruding players. This would open up another skill tree branch; with skills for the surveillance equipment, countermeasures to this equipment, equipment for remaining undetected etc. This would allow for several types of attack strategy; ninja tactics all the way, brute force as quickly as possible, or somewhere in between.
I think this, or some variation of it, would be a great addition. It would be a quite different game mode than the ones we have at the moment, add depth to the game and last but not least: let all corp members participate in PC and have goals in the game beyond grinding SP in public matches. |
