I found myself reflecting on the recent patch and changes to the core mechanics of Dust. Every time they change movement speed, improve hit detection or aiming the pace and feel of the game changes. I've seen this game go through many changes already. From scout suits with dumb fire swarms spamming death and HMGs being a force of fear to trench warfare where you can't break from cover without dying as an easy target. We just had another transition from strafing and dancing to a game of cover and intel. The question is, what do we want Dust to be? Personally I want I want a game with lots of options for weapons and fits with core mechanics that give you the freedom to play as you want without being penalized for not playing the FOTM. That is just what I think. What do you want dust to be? |

High order FPS Game that is well... a Softcore tactical shooter if you will with strong emphasis of you being your own soldier, managing your own growth, your own loadouts, your own finances, and eventually your own wars and battles.
The game will present problems and dozens of solutions and degrees of solutions to those problems where rock paper and scissors is not clearly cut as a total idiot of a rock can lose to a pair of smartly used scissors. Them game will also reward and punish choices you make from the moment to moment incidents to the longer term rolls of fates. A guy that remembers getting teabagged by you may get you back in the future if he's smart enough. |

Right now, it feels like a series of changes being made to appease certain knee-jerk reactions. 1.5 brought on way too many of these changes, all at once and managed to throw off several core mechanics that are meant to be the foundation of this game. Hopefully, the devs will look at the issues with strafing, TTK, aim-assist and weapon balance so that this can go back to character customization having a degree of meaning. |

right now, for me dust feels more like a chore, im doing the chores but im not liking it, might change some things here and there but in essence its still the same chore.
right now dust doesnt have anything else besides PVP. we fight every day to earn what ISK & SP we could make in a fight, try to improve ourselves a bit and thats about it.
CCP throws in a few improvements and bugs at us after each update but in essence its still the same PVP action, there's really nothing new besides the few improvements a couple of maps and thats it. |

DUST is another window through which to view the persistent universe of New Eden. To be honest, I don't think they should worry too much about the mechanics. Work on making DUST feel like its in New Eden. The skies of planets, for example. Where are the multiple moons at night? The twin suns causing us to run across a battlefield with two shadows?
Where is the absolutely staggering variety of planetary geography?
Where are the dozens of weapons, divided racially and manufactured by dozens of different industrial corporations?
Where is the ability to compromise a titan, shoot a pilot in his pod and destroy spacecraft from the inside?
PC was meant to give us sandcastles. Right now all I see is worthless sand with no tools to form the castles. I want to be able to build walls around our districts, fortify the NULL cannons, put extra shielding around installations, place drone hives, choose where we spawn when a defence starts.
And to counter this, attackers should be able to bring in thousands of clones, bring drone hives of their own as they dash themselves against my castle walls. |

Obviously, dust is the small fragments of dirt and stuff that get everywhere and need to be cleaned out of your electronics to avoid them overheating. Not really relevant to a forum about a videogame, though, except in the context of cleaning it out of your PC or console.
But addressing what you probably actually means, in spite of LOLrelease 5/14, DUST is still not feature-complete or release-ready yet. Until it is, there isn't going to be a shared vision for what DUST is within the playerbase. |

It is my foray into New Eden. A place where I call home in a universe distant from ours in a time we have yet to have seen. It's an engaging grind that rewards you for patience and diligence. Yet it punishes harshly for reckless abandonment. It's like a marine corp boot camp on hot parris island. You hate what you experience. You fail upon first entry. But as time passes you find yourself growing into the soldier that you imagined when you first entered your character's name. It's a world that you can submerge in. A place where friends can be found and where arch rivals are created. Dust is what you make it. Be it the meta game or just your strategy shooter, Dust incorporates many things that you can't possibly categorize into one area.
This is New Eden...the mist of your blood shall taint the gases and stars of its space. |

That is just what I think. What do you want dust to be? I want essentially what we have now with two important modifications.
Most importantly, i want some strafe. Just enough to make it to cover if we're caught unaware. Just enough that strafe is useful but cover and tactical movement are necessary. How do we achieve this? Not sure right now, decrease AA adhesion tracking(angular range and/or angular tracking velocity)or increase strafe speed or both?
Secondly, a damage nerf. This is easy to play with and iterate on. Given the fixed hit detection and AA, i'd say that if my first point is satisfied a 15% de-buff to AA weapons should be a good starting point.
TL;DR - a medium-strafy tracking shooter with slightly longer TTL than what we have atm.
