I primarily run basic heavy suit or advanced sentinel with a heavy machine gun. I do not claim to be anywhere near the best heavy out there ,but I think I can say im proficient at least in the art of "fatsuits" I'm posting this because I have seen ALOT of heavies (presumably new players trying/honing their skills in the fatsuits) running blind into a fight.Dont let the size of your suit make you cocky, us heavies are a massive target and a slow one at that (most of the time).
my few main pieces of advice for all those trying out the heavy class on the ground;
A: cover! move along walls , cross roads in a straight line if you have to cross one , stay near doorframes and crates and keep their positions in mind.A heavy in the open is a big juicy target...a heavy in a fortified position with eyes on your position can be one of the most difficult opponents to take out.
B:you are going to be rushed , ALOT! this is a great tactic against most heavies , our strafe speed and turn speeds make us a big slow turnstyle.so if you notice an assault suit , or a shotgun wielder sprinting straight for you, spray and back step, don't let that little bastard in beside you, if theres a wall put it to your back..they can only run so much , and once you catch them in your kill cone( HMG close quarters) they wont last more than a few seconds.
C: now this is important , maybe one of the most important pieces..while it can be fun and satisfying to run solo through a battlefield , sending thousands of rounds down the range at your enemies, a heavy operates at its best with support of a team.A team member with an AR will fir on an enemy, the opponent will know what is hitting him , and make a move from his cover , knowing that the AR will headshot him if he hides half his body or not;this is when the heavy off to the side unloads and wipes the redberry off his feet. enemies wont all out assault a heavy from the front very often , most know better than that..this is why having a heavy at the back of your squad is amazingly helpful...an enemy who would rush a lighter armored ally will think twice about it if he sees fatsuit babysitting his target..and that moment of indescision can end up killing them..and even if not, you can move up and finish the job.
lastly , babysit logis , if they have reps (repair tools) they are instantly your best friend.a heavy with one or more logis in support instantly becomes a massive threat.
(pretty sure I massacred the English language up there , but im posting between clients at work so bear with me...also these are tactics I have found work for me, someone else could have a completely different play stlye so these points may not pertain to them.anyone with more heavy advice please feel free to post it up in here, lets get the fatsuiters rolling strong) |

Good advice and appreciate the emphasis on caution. When I see a heavy in the middle of a clearing it reminds me of hunting buffalo from a helicopter. Just good fun. Heavies are unfortunately even more dependent on squads in 1.4, so make friends. |

These are some great tips for any heavy to consider. Caution is everything for heavies because if you get caught in a bad spot, you can't exactly run away. Good post |

I have been mostly playing my Heavy alt, Crash Gaden recently. Finally got Proto Kinetic Catalysers so I can sprint for cover at just over the normal walking speed of an Assault suit.
I find my Heavy, despite having 1010 HP goes down faster than an Assault suit. I am guessing it is because the hit box for my head is the size of a milk crate. I went head to head with my Assault suit this morning using my Assault HMG against his Toxic Assault Rifle at less than 20 m and I went down first. I had no damage mods, but I was accurate on that occasion, although I was aiming for his chest rather than his head. With my low skills I was not so much surprised that he beat me going head to head, but that he clearly expected to beat me, since he did not go for cover.
I should make clear that I donGÇÖt usually stand in the open like that, but I was in a situation where I had him lined up, at fairly close rang and there were no other Reds in a position to interfere, so it was a good test scenario.
I have concluded that I need to try to make head shots to be successful with the HRM and using cover is even more important than with an Assault suit. Hopefully once I get skilled up with a few levels of Precision and Complex damage mod, then I might kill more of my targets. |
