I think some of the posters here are a little confused. I don't think anyone is advocating these be implemented tomorrow and we be left to what we have now to counter them. I mean seriously, an ADS should not be able to take one of these down. It should barely be able to keep up. All an ADS is is a stripped down and up-gunned troop transport. It is not a true attack craft or it would not have 2 passenger seats.
To the topic, I would think heavy aircraft would be something like a B-17. It would have small turrets all around and take a full squad to man every station. Also it should be tough as nails.
I think it would be cool to have 2 variants for it as well. One could be a bomber with the ability to drop heavy ordinance, or eventually be able to mount a weapon that could deal significant damage to an MCC. Not significant like killing it in 5 shots but maybe each hit takes out 1 bar of health. Think Independence Day when the B-2 launches the nuke at the alien ship. Bombs could be like a stasis field effect that slows everyone down in an area for a given period, or a flux field that takes down your shields when you go into the area, or maybe a nanite cloud that does DoT armor damage while in the area, perhaps a sensor damping field that makes scanning impossible. The "bombs" don't have to be limited to just big explosions and straight damage. Also you might be able to mount a few large precision bombs or a lot of smaller and less powerful saturation type bombs for different applications.
The second, I'm thinking super transport. It would still have several small turrets but would be able to carry actual passengers and even heavy equipment like tanks or LAVs and MAVs when they come along. They would be for dropping a combat ready team into an area to quickly cause trouble.
And if you fancy a third type, maybe we can exchange some of the small turrets and the ability to mount bombs or haul passengers for the ability to mouths a couple of large turrets on one side to make like an AC-130 gunship.
And for a fourth that just came to me, make it similar to variant 1 only less turrets and more fragile and for that you get stealth. It would be harder to lock on with weapons like swarms, engines would be quieter and it would be more difficult to find by scanning.
So the first variant would be your standard and the other 3 would be like the specialized variants of the other vehicles in terms of skill tree. These things would be tough, dish out tons of damage, and be basically the ideal tool for tearing down an enemy's defenses in an area. On the other hand, they should be big, slow, EXPENSIVE (like 10 mil a piece kind of expensive) and should be very vulnerable to fighters.
But all this really needs to wait until teams get bigger and the game gets more strategic with much bigger maps. |
