Planets need to produce a resource that is highly motivational to EVE pilots, this will cause it to have a high price tag. Anything with a high price tag in EVE will get people's attention and motivate them. One idea is to have planets produce a goo that can be refined into a +10% passive SP booster for EVE pilots (actual percent would need to have the right balance).
Another option would be having planets produce a substance necessary for fueling jump bridges, which are the logistical networks that sustain the large Null Sec empires. In EVE many players think the jump bridges are too strong and allow major Corp Alliance to project power too far and too quickly across the map. By having them dependent on a resource, these alliances will be highly motivated to maintain a secure and reliable supply of this resource. It also creates the opportunity for a corp looking to weaken the Null Alliance by taking out their supply channels.
Another option would be a resource that is required for titan jump-bridging fuel. This would have a similar effect as the above suggestion, but effect smaller Null Sec Corps too.
If planets made something people in EVE care about, then people in EVE will care, it's as simple as that. The current bonuses are laughably weak. CCP would be better off making the DUST resource too good, rather than not good enough, because, let's face it, DUST needs all the help it can get right now. |

The problems I see in the mesh is that EVE players will be effectively creating crap-tons of militia gear and selling it for recycle. DUST gear is cheap -extremely cheap- to EVE pilots. It means nothing to an EvE vet to shell out a billion isk for 1 ship. Where we hesitate taking our Proto gear out into a Pub stomp
Once the markets go live, there WILL be a way to transfer EvE isk to DUST isk, Prices/ payouts must go through the roof before the markets go live or tiers will become meaningless and Proto will just be how it is.
Originally the DEVs had Zero idea how much isk a Merc would waste on a match. When the numbers came out they knew they had screwed up, it left their jaws on the floor. CCP actually talks about the ISK between EVE and DUST at fanfest, and the solution is having a tax system that CCP can monitor and balance the flow of ISK each way. Also, most pilots in EVE think long and hard before buying a billion ISK ship. They'll even sing to save ships much cheaper than that. Just google "Eve Sining ransoms" for some laughs. |
