I know this is going to be one of the most hated suggestions I've made, However....
You zoom to the objective, you drop some links, you hack the objective, you defend the objective, you find yourself facing 8-10 enemy, with possibly only 0-2 of your team there. You are overwhelmed and you get killed.
Before you rez in again, you look down at the map and see that you were the only fool with 200 meters of "A". You see 6-9 of your team in the hills, and the rest huddled in a bunker.
Within moments the links you dropped are destroyed by the enemy, the objective is counter hacked by the enemy and soon the objective is crawling with enemy.
How can this be, you beat the enemy to the objective, captured it, ensured resupply, yet your team is playing pattycake with each other in the hills, out of range, mostly behind the red line, protecting their precious K/Ds or suits and equipment.
This is not every game for sure, but I am seeing it more and more on Domination. About 20% of the time.
I love my Thale's and I use sniping to rest from heavy combat after engaging the enemy, sometimes I'll switch to sniping because I've already lost a ton of equipment in the first half of the engagement. However, there are people that are farming isk and K/D for the entire match, and they come to represent more than half of the team.
I know sniper kills can help. However, they don't get the objective back. You have to have boots on the ground at the objective. AND you have to have sufficient quantities to hold the position.
Therefore, I suggest that sniper camps receive less points per kill to reduce the incentive to sit out the match and just gather isk and k/d selectively. Perhaps 35 pts. for a kill that is over 100 meters, 25 pts. for a kill that is over 200 meters.
#2. I noticed, while I was sniping that if you are panning with your scope to see if there are enemy in the hills, you get warned that you are going to be disconnected. This doesn't seem correct. Non-movement by a sniper is a survival tactic. I believe that the non-movement penalty needs to be adjusted somehow. Perhaps if your weapon is a sniper rifle, you don't receive the kick-out penalty?
OK, I know that a whole bunch of people are going to tell me I'm crazy. The snipers are going to tell me how valuable they are. I recognize that there is value in snipers. However, there has to be some other incentive to get boots on the ground around the objective. I'm open to alternatives. Maybe increasing the kill points for a kill that is within 20 meters, instead of taking away from snipers?

In a game where there's bullet-lag and bullet-drop I would tell you, you're ******** because longer range shots are more difficult. That's not to say longer range shots are NOT more difficult here, they're essentially the same as short range, but the draw-distance is currently anti-long range so sometimes you will not be able to hit, what appears to be, easy targets due to some object being invisible at your current distance.
Regardless, Losing a game is incentive enough to not rely on sniping alone. If you lose because you and 12 other teammates are sniping, and you can't figure out why you lost, you will keep losing and deserve to lose. We probably don't need to penalize people because they're losing and too stupid to figure out why they're losing. That will just make them lose harder. |
