Listen guys, I think there's a huge misunderstanding here as far as how gave development works particularly in regards to "engines". First off, I don't recall CCP stating anywhere that they would be going back to the Carbon engine, nor is it something that would even be feasible for them.
Think about it this way: if I were trying to get from Atlanta to New York, I could drive, take a train, fly, or even take a boat. The game engine is your "method" while the game is your "vehicle". So if you chose the road, you could take a car, bus, bike, etc. These things all work essentially the same way but are just put together differently, a la how games with the same engine have different graphics, different effects, slightly different mechanics, etc. Now, what do you think would happen if you tried to drive a car across the ocean?
That's essentially how the engines work. In order for CCP to transfer DUST onto the Carbon engine, they would have to rebuild the game from the ground up. All the assets, artwork, mechanics, almost EVERYTHING would have to be remade. So if CCP decided they were going back to Carbon for PS4, it would essentially be a new game that they would be making. As such, I highly doubt that CCP would have invested all this time only to scrap the game and start over. Not only would that be a huge waste of time and money, it wouldn't be very logical either. Even for something like the Unreal 4 Engine, CCP would still most likely have to completely rebuild the assets as it's never as simple as "copy and paste" in game development. |

DUST never ran on Carbon engine. It was always Unreal. Ask CCP Praetorian, he will confirm it. |

*Apologies, I had to.* *flame shields to full*
I feel for you, seeing everyone claims to have an Aimbot and are sporting Flaming AR Duvolles with hitdetection improvements...methinks your gonna need a set of Nova shields instead of regular Flame shields! |

Eve does not run on the Carbon engine. The graphics engine for EVE is called trinity 2.0.
Carbon is the name given to the framework which all eve code was based on for incarna/walking in stations and the new character creator as far as I know. |

CCP Developed an amazing engine here, are they going to scrap an entire engine just because it didn't work on one console? Will it be appearing on the PS4 version of Dust? at first CCP said it MAY come to PS4, but recently people have said it wont happen - personally it should be scrapped and remade |

I'm sure there are many competing technical and practical considerations, but if i had my choice the next incarnation of DUST would be written in the carbon engine. Because I wanna be there when the first Merc vrs. Pod Pilot bar fight goes down. And so do you.
Pod Pilots can't even walk straight. Have you seen how capsuleers walk in EVE? They walk goofy like apes and have no posture. They're probably so used to everything happening around them by thinking it, that they lack the simple hand-eye coordination to throw a punch.
A dust merc would r@pe the ever-loving fk out of a capsuleer in a bar fight. lol |
