Welcome to Consoles.
Welcome the land in which DUST is to reside.
A Land where 1337 11-year-olds say their so epic, but have aim assist.
I'm not saying Aim Assist is a bad thing.
Quite the contrary.
It is a necessary evil for this game to grow in any fashion.
Either Have Aim Assist, and have growing numbers, but fleeing vets, or don't have aim assist or have shrinking/stable Numbers with Unhappy Newberries.

More an explanation to explain why the QQ needs to stop.
Fall Cleaning is in order, and all the Cob Webs are a little angry.
Besides, they QQ, we say "That's Consoles" They say it isn't fair, we get a Core Mechanic Nerfed. Again.
The only way to counter QQ around here is to QQ back.

There are two kinds of aim assist.
1. "passive" aim assist, which CCP have referred to as "aim friction" at times. This doesn't automatically correct your aim under any circumstances, it just makes it slightly slower when turning away from a target and/or slightly faster turning towards the target. In DUST's case, the former option is used, hence their name for the effect. Added friction slows down your turn rate any time that turning would aim you away from a target. This was NOT disabled during 1.3, and has been in DUST in some form over a large portion of the game's history.
2. "active" aim assist. This is the kind that currently has an on/off switch. This form of aim assist is where the game actually takes control of where you're aiming, and turns you to stay on a moving target and/or to keep your crosshairs on a stationary target while you're moving. DUST does both of the aforementioned processes with its aim assist.
The options aren't, and SHOULDN'T BE, only "delete" or "keep". Personally, I don't find aim assist overly helpful, and don't like it, and have it disabled most of the time (only turn it on for occasional testing). The question should have at least 4 options. No change, increase effect, reduce effect, or remove. People voting "remove" on your poll are likely to be doing so because they think that no aim assist is better than the current state of aim assist. If it's tweaked slightly, I won't have any objection to them having aim assist in DUST. I just don't think they have the level of AA quite right yet (although I'm still testing, so that opinion is subject to change) |

1: Improved matchmaking means that you'll often be put against more skilled players who can actually aim (addressed to the 'elite' pubstompers doing the VAST majority of the whining).
2: Improved hit detection, the implications should be obvious.
3: Scanning changes mean it's easier for people to get the drop on you.
Basically, aim assist is probably getting blamed for many of the deaths caused by the above - simply because blaming it is the new crutch of players who's kdr was inflated by playing against noobs who ran into their bullets. |

If they keep it they need to lower the DPS of weapons then.
Or lower the cost of gear dramatically across the board. I've played 20 or so matches in the new build and I've easily died twice as much. |

But, this argument will NEVER stop until somebody says we are going to have Aim Assist, or we are not going to have Aim assist.
Never.
On that topic, I will say, that the AA needs to be tweaked, (Which, IMO is the best option, but hard heads will never agree with a middle man agreement) so it isn't so jolting. It needs to be much more fluid with its tracking.

How true. Much of this is likely coming from Protostompers who are upset that they have to actually fight people who can shoot back. |

Or dial back aim-assist just a tad so that it still encourages you to put more effort into aiming. |

People are close minded and put too much darn emphasis on aiming as the defining feature of first person shooters. Honestly, as alien as it may sound to you, aiming is probably one of the least skill intensive aspects to a shooter. There are several other traits such as situational awareness, critical thinking, battle tactics, among others that have a much higher impact on how well one does or does not do.

The hit detection improvement is definitely why my character turns to follow a moving target when I turn aim assist on. That's not to say it tracks perfectly every time without any input, but it does some of the work and it will stay on target while an enemy is moving at a relatively slow pace. |

Hit detection is fine now from what I have seen in my tests. It's the aim-assist. I tested the AR myself with and without the aim-assist and there is noticeable difference. Keep in mind that I suck badly with the gun in Dust.
Now, if you're already a pro with the gun, then it won't matter if you had aim-assist on or off. You'll hit your target. |

I agree for the most part. But for each skill that can be replaced with a settings option the game becomes more like a multiplayer Final Fantasy than an FPS. |
