Welcome to Consoles.
Welcome the land in which DUST is to reside.
A Land where 1337 11-year-olds say their so epic, but have aim assist.
I'm not saying Aim Assist is a bad thing.
Quite the contrary.
It is a necessary evil for this game to grow in any fashion.
Either Have Aim Assist, and have growing numbers, but fleeing vets, or don't have aim assist or have shrinking/stable Numbers with Unhappy Newberries.
Choose Now.
Delete, Or Keep.
Until we can answer this question, the thought of tweaks should be left be. For now at least. |

Patrick57 wrote:So a QQ thread about QQ threads. Not quite.
More an explanation to explain why the QQ needs to stop.
Fall Cleaning is in order, and all the Cob Webs are a little angry.
Besides, they QQ, we say "That's Consoles" They say it isn't fair, we get a Core Mechanic Nerfed. Again.
The only way to counter QQ around here is to QQ back.
Logical arguments are futile. |

Garrett Blacknova wrote:There are two kinds of aim assist.
1. "passive" aim assist, which CCP have referred to as "aim friction" at times. This doesn't automatically correct your aim under any circumstances, it just makes it slightly slower when turning away from a target and/or slightly faster turning towards the target. In DUST's case, the former option is used, hence their name for the effect. Added friction slows down your turn rate any time that turning would aim you away from a target. This was NOT disabled during 1.3, and has been in DUST in some form over a large portion of the game's history.
2. "active" aim assist. This is the kind that currently has an on/off switch. This form of aim assist is where the game actually takes control of where you're aiming, and turns you to stay on a moving target and/or to keep your crosshairs on a stationary target while you're moving. DUST does both of the aforementioned processes with its aim assist.
The options aren't, and SHOULDN'T BE, only "delete" or "keep". Personally, I don't find aim assist overly helpful, and don't like it, and have it disabled most of the time (only turn it on for occasional testing). The question should have at least 4 options. No change, increase effect, reduce effect, or remove. People voting "remove" on your poll are likely to be doing so because they think that no aim assist is better than the current state of aim assist. If it's tweaked slightly, I won't have any objection to them having aim assist in DUST. I just don't think they have the level of AA quite right yet (although I'm still testing, so that opinion is subject to change) I would agree with a tweak.
But, this argument will NEVER stop until somebody says we are going to have Aim Assist, or we are not going to have Aim assist.
Never.
On that topic, I will say, that the AA needs to be tweaked, (Which, IMO is the best option, but hard heads will never agree with a middle man agreement) so it isn't so jolting. It needs to be much more fluid with its tracking.

2: Improved hit detection, the implications should be obvious.
3: Scanning changes mean it's easier for people to get the drop on you.
Basically, aim assist is probably getting blamed for many of the deaths caused by the above - simply because blaming it is the new crutch of players who's kdr was inflated by playing against noobs who ran into their bullets. How true.
How true. Much of this is likely coming from Protostompers who are upset that they have to actually fight people who can shoot back. |
