The PRO faction - Aim assist makes this game feel like less work to some people. It puts a little more fun back into the game. Players can no longer just stand toe to toe and take on three people. It also adds balance against AOE users who dominated after 1.3
The CON faction - Aim assist is a little too strong. Aim assist consists of two mechanics. The first mechanic helps lead the reticule towards your target while the second helps to keep it on the target. I fully support the first mechanic and believe that it is working fine. However, I believe that the second is what is causing some of the grief on the forums. I think that relaxing this second mechanic will help to make both sides a little happier.
Overall, this new aim assist has changed the game and will require a change to how people play the game.
- You die a lot faster now - Mercs will have to completely rethink their fits and tactics to remain ISK-positive moving forward. When you combine aim-assist with matchmaking, you are going to die more than you are used to.
- Even if you win an engagement, you will be hurting - CQC becomes a whole new ballgame. In the past, you could take on multiple targets in a row and, because they were surprised, they generally would not be aiming to their best ability. More often than not, you would come out with only some of your shields gone. Now, you are going to be in need of a logi.
- Armor and Shields now have a somewhat 'balance' - I say this because armor (with the aide of a logi or rep hive) has now become much better at CQC while shields and their recharge ability are more tailored to hit-and-run and ranged engagements.
- Teamwork is now more important than ever - As stated before, straight 1v1 is a lot more taxing than it used to be. It is now much more beneficial to stay together and have a good diversity of squad members (energy/projectile/hybrid weapons as well as logi support) to be able to consistently move from engagement to engagement.
I think that just tweaking Aim Assist a little bit will help to make this patch shine (that and fixing the whole matchmaking and CQC weapon hit detection thing). I like how it has changed how we play the game but I dont want it to completely erase skill as a deciding factor for an engagement.
Thank you for your time.
