So theres a weird phenomenon that goes around in this community that is rather perplexing...
At some point every one of us has gotten so fed up with this game that we either take a break or turn to bitching on the forums. But for some reason almost every one of us returns to this game to play it in short time.
Personally, I know I have taken 2 breaks. The first was right after Chromosome was released assuming the game was going to be crappy again. The second was a deserved one when all the lag was happening in PC at the release of Uprising. But unfortunately i still waste my time here.
So what is it that brings me or anyone else back?
- The need to keep up with everyone in skill points incase this game one day isnt ****?
- The people who you play with beg you for help because they have now become obsolete?
- You get bored with other games you were playing and decide to "try" dust 514 again?

For me, it's the concept of what this game could become.
I'm not interested in playing games like COD or BF. But this game is different, and I hope it stays like that, and the scale of potential is immense.
One day I hope to see it live up to even some of it. |

What is it? Its addictive, others shooters dont have the crave factor, it takes ages to get to proto here, but the stuff looks so damn cool, other games just give all the toys at the same time and to have fun!
The length of 1v1 encounters WAS the main point, and hopefully a little less damage on ROF weapons will solve this, but that rush of adenaline as you dance around each other, both trying not to slip up is so much more satisifying then bang hah I win!
This is what brings them back and always will!! |

Btw I commend everyone who has actually stuck with the game since the beginning and not taken breaks... you sir should have an award for being crazy.
I tend to come back, play for a few days or a week max then not play for a week or two.
Sometimes I get pissed off and don't play for 3-4 weeks.
it's just the fact that DUST is fun but gets boring quickly.
It's good but just not quite there to be considered addictive from my perspective.
There's not much on the market right now other than cookie cutter generic shooters and we're waiting for the consoles to arrive but really I think the reason we play is there is a point to it all. You gain SP, you get better, if the game's frustrating you can unlock that one thing which is a bit of fun.
There's always new things to do and new weapons to unlock so if you're bored you can come back a month later and dump passive SP into a new weapon.
Using alts helps with burnout too. |

I play since my brother-in-law plays this game and he's the only friend I ever had and he's one of my few ways of contacting my dad. This game has nearly given me several heart attacks (I'm only 20, bad isn't it) from my anger issues. If it weren't for him then I would be in Defiance or GTA right now. |

This is the same for every game I play. I take massive breaks from Minecraft. Breaks from League of Legends. Been on break from dozens of MMORPGs for years. I never officially quit though; passwords are still recorded in a trusty place. Even browser games I come back to: I go kill a monster in AdventureQuest once a year, or something like that.
Only game I really quit was Runescape. I picked on a mob that was out of my league, got kittened, then even though I was begging some random not to take my items, he mercilessly looted all my stuff and ran off. Even an e-mail titled "Membership Loyalty Programme" which offered me exclusive items couldn't bring me back.
It's mainly having stuff IRL to do which draws my attention as well as hopping from game to game and forgetting about older games. But the reason I haven't moved on from DUST is because I don't have any money for new games and it's one of the better F2P games right now.
tl;dr I'm a cheap f**k and DUST is F2P. |

The guys I play with, they 'get me' in a way no one else ever has. The game is the only thing that makes me feel truly alive, I mean, do you understand what control of a District means? We have gone over this before honey. I don't care if the kids are crying... I can't let my team down. This game is all I have and all I want, so no... I will not come do the God Damn dishes."

Exactly. I got too late into Eve and now I'm just a noob and can't really compete there. But I got into Dust at the end of the beta. This time I want to be one of the old guys who says "You shouldn't go into null sec with less than 20 mio SP" |

Because they show passion, commitment and dedication and even with all the **** they take from the community they don't disrespect, lash out or intentionally **** us over. Whenever anyone can take that much criticism and stress and not have their spirit broken they are worth supporting and sticking with.
To me, that's what separates winners from losers. The people who never try or give up at the first obstacle never accomplish what they set out to do. Those who don't give up and try new tactics are more likely to succeed. And they are doing their own thing and making it work. |

No one likes the fps mentality of run, shoot, die, its more the fact there js mkre beyond it, the gameplay is great, and I also rather enjoy lengthy 1v1 fights, but team play is awsome, having a diverse squad makes you feel like a null sec ops team! |

Id say its getting more likely, with each patch we come that little closer to fps enlightenment, I find this more fun then cod (well not not the alcatraz zombies map, death machine out of the random blx is awsome), and she is now beginning to look damn damn pretty, especially at 70 contrast and 40 brightness! |

I like the world. I don't like what CCP does with the game mechanics but I give it a chance.
I'm through with the second life and poor development direction that is EVE except maybe a periodic revisit to kick the tires. DUST may be headed that way.
I don't care to play the other FPSs but I like the mix of the EVE world in the simple, immediate playstyle of the FPS. |

I havnt taken a break as such, ive capped out every week except when i was ill
TBH main reason is that i still have active boosters going and its money and if your not using them its money being wasted tbh
Currently we have a attempted revolution going on to bring down big bad EoN so PC matches are happening so if i get sick of pub matches i can nip into a PC match sometimes and it breaks it up
Also the promise of a better game but hasnt been done before helps, i have a EVE chara before this game happened so i can try and be self sufficent to an extent and i like EVE and i hope that DUST can reach its potential plus its better than most shooters for me anyways |

I'm not back, I visit the forums just to see if the game has improved which seems futile at the moment.
I went through beta with quite a few players many whom have quit, or can't even be bothered to post, about the game any more, the start of dust had so much promise, but most of the feed back seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Also when some issues seemed to be addressed which were of minor importance and major ones ignored it seemed to totally mess up some other aspect of the game, thus we ended up with 1 step forward 3 steps back.
Then release was upon us I lasted a week before I gave up for most of the above reasons, so until there is a marked improvement I wont be back (not that I will be missed).
Shame really as this game could have been so much better instead of mediocre. |

eh I find I tend to have 2 or 3 breaking points in a video game before I quit.
1) I start to play less and less 2) I stop spending money 3) I start rage quitting matches or quitting quests 4) done
I rage quit my first game about 20 minutes after 1.4 came out, so honestly I don't see myself long for this game =/ |

I have a large collection of games.
I pick up a game, and I get lost in it for a while. Then after a while, I buy a new game, or something catches my eye from one of my gaming shelves, or the pile of games next to the PS3, or in the games menu where I have some downloadable games. I move on, then eventually, I come back to something else I liked.
Sometimes I stop playing DUST for a while. Not because I don't like it any more, but because I'm obsessing over something else instead for a few weeks.
I think my timing with those breaks has - so far - kept me from hitting the rage wall that so many others I know have crashed into and disappeared. |

See i guess the biggest thing that keeps me around must be the MMO grind in a FPS...
I love FPS's but honestly hate grinding to get skins for a gun although getting new attachments is nice...
So in all reality im here to stay on top of the leaderboards and to keep my character at the higher end of the Sp scale so that if it does become a great game i will (hopefully) be a more dominant player lol |
