Before 1.4 came out you barely could do anything cause every 1 else has better guns, better suits, better equipment etc. and on top of it there was the stupid fast strafing to sponge bullets. Lets be honest most people who claim themself as "vets" are mad cause strafing doesnt work as good anymore.
You need faster reaction time and get your gun up quicker then the enemy. If you fail to do that then you obviously die.
"Vets" claim that the game got worse, i say the new player experience got much better cause the n00bs aint just gunfodder anymore which means that new players dont just turn away from the game after 3 matches of constantly getting pwnd.

When i was a new player i got steamrolled, anad i liked it bacuse i knew some day i would be able to do the same.Be that guy that can go 35-2 in a game. I toughened it up and now im here. Noobs are gun fodder ALWAYS.You can have 15+ mill and still be a noob. Or have 1 mil and be a good player. The only difference is that the good player went 8-2 in a game and now he goes 16-4....And later on he will go 30-6...
When i started playing DUST i thought The MLT AR was a powerful weapon i was entitled since i started playing as an ''enforcer'' and when i discovered that the Assault rifle had 60 bullets i was shocked and i would do really good. Point is. The problem of with aim assists in not ''vets'' getting killed, but the fact aim assist is a stealthy nerf to Heavies and Scouts. Here is why:MED FRAMES: Have decent/High speed and decent/high armor. Good shield regen and damage output. They are balanced,and there by they have the advantage. The first one to shoot wins. BUT no only this is brain-dead ,because even if the most skilled player wins he will still be heavily damaged and the next scrub will take you down, doesnt matter your skill,he wont miss and even if you dont either he has the HP advantage.
Light Frames: WHATS the point of being speedy if bullets literally follow you? Plus you cant even whithstand a small AR burst.
Heavies: Yup,they have high EHP but the lack of mobility is now even worse.Just by peeking out from behind a wall i would get 700 damage from a lot of reds spamming in my general direction,while before 1.4, i would only get 100.
100 to 700 is a BIG difference....
