I'm a vet. I don't give a flying crap about aim assist for or against. none of the weapons I use benefit from aim assist, and bluntly I don't care if a nub with an exile can actually kill me. TTK shortening annoys me not one damn bit.
There is one thing I absolutely adore however, is that aim assist (combined with working hit detection) has eliminated the viability of the bunny hop and wobbling back and forth like an epileptic drunk. this tickles me a lot. I'll suck up the people having an easier time hitting me if it means everyone else has to learn how to use cover, and not depend on rapid-strafing and bunny hopping to take advantage of faulty hit detection.
I hate to break it to you children, but both tactics take advantage of faulty hit detection which lowers the damage absorbed by you, the chump doing it. Since CCP's weapons are hitscan (this was established long ago) you can no longer take advantage of said thing working any longer because you are no longer "stepping through" incoming fire, and lag isn't interfering with hits as much.
I tested the aim assist, on you. it does not pull the damn crosshair. It does not follow a strafer. it creates a tendency for the bullets to tighten up wherever you are a bit. Bluntly there's little to no difference between me aiming and the controller aiming as far as my tendency to live/die in an engagement.
But all of my bullets are hitting you when I ADS. Let's think about the implications of that for a second. When I use ADS, your dropsuit freaking MELTS because all of my hits are registering. My forge doesn't direct-hit as much because hit detection says that the shot actually passed a millimeter in front of you and singed your pubes instead of slop-balling it into your kidney when I was leading you.
If hit detection was still ass, then there would be no bitching except the habitual whines that come from a small subset of players who absolutely CANNOT STAND the idea that anyone else should be able to meet them on an even keel and stand an actual chance much less being given a "crutch" to improve their performance somewhat. I butcher you stinking tryhards all the time. my KDR is 1.1 and I artificially deflate it just because I hate you all because of the elitist attitude you bring to DUST and I don't want you to try and recruit me.
If you hate the game because you are now subject to the same rules of the rest of us? The door is over there. Get the hell out. I'm telling every single DS3 nub we recruit, and in local to turn aim assist off to **** you off even more and inspire you all to get out.
TL;DR: The game will be far more entertaining, dynamic and fluid without you.
