At medium range, the aim assist is essentially aimbot. It tracks your target for you. At very close or very long ranges it's more of an actual aim assist. If you think the aim assist is not noticeable and is not capable of tracking targets with 0 input on your right stick, turn it off for a few matches. You will feel differently. Don't even get me started on the fact that the aim "assist" will suck your crosshairs up to the enemy's head if you stay on target for a second or so, leading to many many more headshots today than there were yesterday.
Fixing hit detection problems and buffing the aim assist in the same update was an awful, awful idea. Now combine those two things with the laser-like accuracy of AR's - the most widely used weapon - and you'll understand why people are complaining.
Speaking as a DS3 user who despises the notion that we need any manner of aim assist to compete with kb/m, take the aim assist out. You're going to train us all to be lazy, inaccurate baddies who rely on the computer to aim for us. I turned the aim assist on today to see how bad it was and I can literally see myself forgetting how to aim properly if you leave this in the game.
tl;dr - Aim "assist" is obscene. It needs removed, or nerfed at minimum. Anyone who disagrees with this point is terrible at aiming and should be ignored entirely because they're incapable of forming an unbiased opinion on the matter. |

Turn aim assist off for a while, then turn it back on. If you're incapable of telling the difference, you've got no business representing the interests of the general playerbase as a CPM member. The aim assist as it currently stands is, as previously stated, obscene. When the computer tracks targets across your screen with 0 input from your right analog controller, something is wrong.
What next? Trigger assist? Will the computer - after aiming down our targets for us - also handle that bothersome shooting part? Clearly we cannot be assed with learning when to fire our guns as I see blue dots shooting at walls and the MCC all the time, so obviously we all need an option to let the game decide when to fire our weapons for us too. Can I get some movement assist? My heavy suit is such a chore to walk around in.
If this iteration of aim assist is staying, there needs to be matchmaking for those with aim assist, and those without it. Period. I'd much rather play against kb/m and PSMove users with my DS3 without aim assists than people using aimbots. |

Zahle Undt wrote:@ Scalesdini and Lurchasaurus. I love the arguments that anyone who disagrees with your assertations regarding the aim assist is obviously bad and their opinions invalid. I can see you both have promising careers ahead of you in conservative talk radio or are you already both overweight, pill popping, sex tourists?
The irony in this post is overwhelming. |
