New maps are great! I can't overstate how refreshing this is. Combat feels more intense when you're being hit (female characters shouldn't have male voice though--wtf?). This is a really big deal and adds a lot to the fun-factor/immersion. Weapons feel much more powerful even if the damage is the same. Laser rifles are somewhat usable again (they need more zoom in ADS though, and more range). Auto-aim seems good at first look, but I need to play more before I can say for sure. The updates screen is good. I haven't been run over yet (got crushed by a crashing dropship though which was pretty awesome), so I can't comment on murder taxi fix, but the current solution is the right way to handle it. This is a big improvement once the bugs are ironed out. It's starting to feel like by 1.5 we will be nearing the end of "beta" and can focus on bringing in more content instead of fixing core mechanics. |

I played a bit more this morning and the thing I noticed that really made me smile is the variety of weapons on the field. There's ARs, TAC ARs, SRs, LRs, MDs, HMGs, FGs, SGs, flaylocks, SMGs, Swarms, snipers, and vehicles. It's 1000x better than ARs everywhere you look. This is how it should be, and a really big improvement from what we had in the past. I still haven't seen any plasma rifles, but I'm sure CCP will get around to balancing them too.
My first match was one of the most balanced I've ever played in DUST and our team won the domination match by killing their clones despite being a bit behind in MCCs health near the end. The objective switched hands like 4 or 5 times, and combat was intense and a lot of fun. The WP distribution was fairly even too, with no one getting 3k WP while others had 0, even on the loosing team. They had a similar number of WPs too. The second round was a bit lopsided. My team never took the objective, but the firefights weren't nearly so one-sided. We weren't redlined and kept trying to push them back.
I still need to play a lot more, but I really do think 1.4 is going to be a winner. |
