Gamepad controls is bad for everything.
1.4 update seems like insult to gamepad's users. Mouse have no more limits, gamepad still have slow speed as if specially do for ret-Śrded people. Without cheating aim assist gamepad is useless now. Too slow. You just dont let us even try to compete vs mouse users.
In battlefield 3 i successfully play with sensitivity x3-x4 faster than in dust 514 without any aim assist (i disabled it). But there CCP offer me to forget my skill and use this stupid aim assist only. Just see how Dice made it in bf3 and dont make your own mistakes, learn from succesfull done job.
Solution is easy - increasing max level of sens in x4 and nerf aim assist. With this solution newbies can play on low level on sens, strong players will set maximum.
At start increase maximum cap of speed of gamepad's sensitivity to equal mouse on hip fire. But in zoom mode it must be a little slower than on hip mode.
And, maybe no one will need so strong aim assist.
First off, there's supposedly a hard cap on turn speed that mouse users can't break (I havne't personally tested and confirmed this).
Secondly, I agree aim assist needs an adjustment downwards in effectiveness.
Thirdly, Even before 1.4 happend, CCP confirmed that 1.5 will include the ability to tune hipfire and ADS sensitivity independently of one another.
Mouse have good speed for any action, its depend by skill only now. And here is hardware with switchable DPI and macroses... cost 10$
Gamepad is too slow now, i have skill to operate with x3 or x4 faster controls. CCP dont let me it, they just gave me aim assist wich i dont need. Ok, i just dont play this game since 1.3. I hoped about 1.4, but they still think i am cripple with slow reactions.
independently tuning is good, when scale of sens for gamepad is from very slow (for newbies) to equal mouse sens. If they will keep current sensitivity difference between mouse and gamepad - it will epic fail.
there will always be third party software that gives those kinds of advantages, like modded controllers. Hell, i have an aiming mouse with dpi toggles and a nice assortment of buttons to use.
i dont use it for dust tho, partly because it is too cheesy for me and also because i simply cant LOL. we cant rebind keys and just like on a gamepad, people will always be able to artificially increase sensitivity.
I spent thousands hours in the Battlefield series on PS3, and can say - modded controllers is soooooo rare, i never met guy with it in Battlefield. Modded gamepads have not so good quality as standart gamepad, and its cost near 50-100$ (dont remember fine), so not many people decide to buy it.
In other case in dust 514 with direct mouse support i met them often enough. We all remember tactical AR feature. Reasons - mouse with hardware macroses support is soo cheap. And guys from PC who are accustomed to using macrosest, they even dont understand its cheating to play with it vs DS3 guys.

2CCPI want to say, CCP made mistake when enabled keyboard and mouse support. And they have no experience for shooters at all (its obvious when see their game changes order), seems like they have no idea how to balance it. But its not impossible.
I strongly recommend for them - use other dev's experience for make good gamepad controls.
Lol, its ridiculous, in console shooter, where target auditory is gamepad users - they began repair mouse at start. Its not MMO game where controls is not so much important. Its First Person Shooter where controls is vital feature.
CCP must do:
1. Make scale of sensitivity for gamepad from very slow to very high value (x4 from current max value, example they can see in battlefield 3, or just the same as mouse have now) And choose skilled gamepad guys for test it before release in main game, who came from COD, BF3 or other AAA games. Dont care much make "too high", because if people cant use too high sens - they just wont set it in options. Much worse current situation when i just cant make it faster.
1.1 make gamepad controls real smooth and controlable. Now its unplayable about sens, and controls move
by fits and starts if compare it with controls in other games like BF3.
1.2 dont forget about different scales of sens for hip fire and zoomed mode.

2. make mouse controls the same (Dont worry, it will same or almost the same you have in 1.4 about sens, skilled gamepad users arent slowpokes and can operate with high sens with good controls system of course)
3. make many tests, where skilled gamepad players play vs skilled mouse users at infantry. 4vs4 or 8vs8 will enough.
4. Ask players feedback. Think a lot. As far as i know, skilled mouse players will a bit better than gamepad users even with same sensitivity. Make a little aim assist if necessary.
5. make many tests again, tune aim assist. Ask feedbacks. Think a lot.
6. when skilled gamepad users will play on equal (or almost) level with mouse users - you have success.
7. include resutls it in main game. Profit.
8. And i find to really good idea to choose some simple mouses models to support (without macroses) and ban any other. I guess people can buy cheap mouse its not so hard to buy mouse cost 5-10$. It will bring fair play for allThats way how you can repair this game. I dont believe you can repait it in any other ways. Controls is primary feature in FPS.
