this definitely needs to be a filter. There are times when I only have time for an ambush before i shut my system down. If I get thrown into anything else, I will leave because I simply don't have more than 5 minutes to play.
I would prefer that the match making be a little looser than to have a vote system. I don't mind getting pub stomped occasionally. I want match making to reduce it to a more tolerable frequency. |

Now I get to see all of you crying! Please fix it or bring back the old matchmaking! Wait until everyone is patched and you have a bigger number of players. It's the middle of a weekday! People are working or in school. No matchmaking system will work well with nobody playing. Munch Well, this should still work no matter how many people are online correct? I may not want to play when everyone else in the world is playing, or my schedule may not allow it. If that's the case, I still want to be able to play what I want when I want.
Only played one match, so I haven't seen the match making in full action, but I agree with the general principle that getting the right match, with roughly the same number of players on both teams, in a decent amount of time should take precedence. I can accept some pub stomping on a weekday because the player base is low at that time. Peak times are when I would expect the match making to shine.
For the record CCP, I don't mind waiting a bit longer for a match (say 2-4 minutes instead of 1-2), but please make sure the team is full, and I get to choose the match type. Given these parameters, if you can match me with someone of *somewhat* equal skill, that's awesome. (With that said, I am not too worried about the year long pubstompers having to wait 5-10 minutes to play against other pub-stompers: it will be justice for being the number 1 reason why the player base is not growing with enough new players. :) ). What would be great is a real time indication of the current popularity of one match over another. If I knew that playing domination instead of skirmish will increase my chance of being in a balanced match, I may decide to change my filter.
To some of the comments in this thread and others like it today (rather than the specific post quoted above), people need to chill a bit. The feedback is needed so CCP can fix the match making system so keep giving your feedback, but screeching about the death of the game (for the billionth time in the last year) only serves to blow some steam off while annoying the crap out of the rest of us. Going for a run, or having a beer would do a much better job of taking the edge off the roughness of this patch than Book of Revelations prophecies of the game's impending doom or Hip Hop artist like proclamations of you leaving the game (FYI: we don't care that the latest Hip Hop super star is going to stop rapping because of the sorry state of hip hop, so we definitely don't care that you are leaving dust.).

Having played EVE for 8 years I wasn't prepared to give up that easily, so I stuck around and 1.4 was very welcome. Despite the very wonky match making, I was actually able to kill people and could stay alive longer than 20 seconds at a time.
I log in today and the match making seems fixed, but now I'm back to square one. I'm not about to give up, but constantly being one shot and being unable to kill anyone is pretty soul destroying.
Its the reason why they need (a working) match making so badly. I find it interesting that an Eve Online vet found it soul destroying because some of the proto-bear pubstomping loving vets commonly tell the new players to suck it up because Eve online is an unforgiving game so DUST should be too. Clearly they've been misrepresenting Eve Online.

Lady MDK wrote:Liking it so far...
I had trouble with ds3 in 1.3 but played with it anyway (since its a console game) and sucked but tried to get better. Tried kb/m one day and got loads more kills.
Now finding ds3 pretty good to use and the fire fights are good fun and my kill rate/assist rate is getting better (not by much mind you lol).
Only thing I have noticed (and I mean its happened once not time and again) several people were in a tonight and I came round a corner to join in and thought 'what the heck are they shooting there is nothing there' so I venture out a little further and all of a sudden 3 or 4 players appear as if by magic in front of me, so I ran for cover quick.
The other thing that strings to mind is so far I've played about 5 or 6 games since 1.4 came out and they all seem to be on the new level. Have the old ones been removed or something and the new one being played repeatedly for testing purposes?
i just played a match that was on one of the old levels. |
