This happened to me yesterday.
I was doing my rounds on a quiet Sunday evening with my militia swarm launcher when I saw an enemy dropship being deployed behind one of the tall buildings. This got me rather exited since the dropship looked kinda easy target when it took off very slowly creeping up the building wall in order to ambush the team mates that had a rail tank deployed on top of the opposing building shooting down on the objective. As it happened I emptied my swarms at the dropship and it took sizeable amount of damage nearly bringing it down before I had to reload my weapon. While I reloaded the dropship cleared the roof and got another hit from someone else and then went down in flames to the ground.
So what normally happens in situations like this is that one gets some assists points for softening up the vehicle, but not me. I was left dumb wondering what just had happened. Now I would like to know would I have been entitled to get some points or not? Yes, I did shoot all of the shields away and most of the armor as well, but then had to reload. Reloading gave some time for sure for the other guy to finish off the dropship. The dropship kill does not register until it hits the ground which took yet another couple of seconds from so high above. So the time that lapsed between my last swarm on the dropship and it's registered destruction must have been enough to trigger the timeout denying me any points for the kill.
Now that I think of it, there is the same problem with other vehicles as well, but it manifest slightly different manner and I've seen it, after all I've been driving them myself on several occasions. The time between the last hit on a vehicle and finally it being "burned to the destruction" can be so long that the player scoring the last hit that ultimately caused the destruction is timed out. For instance I've driven an LAV out to safety while it's burning with very low armor left. On most occasions I've managed to use armor repair module to fix it, but sometimes not due to the fact that the module is still "hot" from previous use. This ending up me and the LAV blowing up somewhere quite far from the battle behind the lines and transcript displaying that I only died or committed suicide and hence no points for the player that rightfully was the ultimate cause of my demise.
I know this is a minor issue, but I still think worth some attention. Easiest fix obviously would be just to increase the vehicle damage timeout further. However I would really like to see this fixed in a way that damage done to a vehicle wouldn't timeout at all before vehicle armor has been repaired up to say 1/3 of the current armor damage, this way everyone that had contributed to the vehicle kill would get their share of WPs no matter how far back in time the damage was made. |
