I wouldn't consider myself a mercenary since I fight exclusively for the Amarrian Empire as one of the Praetoriates Templar Crusaders.
I guess an Arkborn child, one born on an Ark class freighter, like me probably shouldn't have ended up fighting in the great wars against the Matari out in Devoid and Hiematar.
I spent many years on Mehkios with my mother after my father was killed by protesting Brutor Tribesmen in Minmatar space. After his death I enrolled in the Sarum Imperial Youth Legions to honour his name, to get a military background, and perhaps revenge on the Matari who stole my Father from me.
But I guess as the years passed and I joined the Sarum Imperial Guard my anger was tempered. It was not the fault of the Matari people, they were ignorant and young, their technological uplifting had thrown a younger race into competition with the elder races.
For about 4 years I was deployed to all sorts of regions in Devoid, archaeological sites with the intent to Reclaim holy artefacts, scouting missions to find Matari facilities, and the protection of high profile Sarum Family interests thought out Amarrian space.
On Ammamake, while accompanying some ecclesiastical staff and a unit of Templars in the recovery of ancient Amarrian transcripts of St Junip's verses we came under fire by renegade Matari forces. After bitter fighting, the transcripts can be found here https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=91938&find=unread, our lines were breached.
But not before the ground forces were declared expendable, and the Aurogor class Cruiser was able to safely escape the planet.
I was killed my a Matari woman on Ammamake, and awoke many hours later in some foreign place. Some of the implants I had received as a Sarum Imperial Guardsman were 3rd Generation Sleeper Implants.
As of that time I dedicated myself to the cause of becoming and Amarrian Templar, realising that much of my faith rested upon the certainty of my Mortality I was forced to come to terms with my damnations and immortality.
However I was able to reach a resolution with the help of a young Vheriokor slave who served at the chapel barracks where I was stationed on Iesa V. Her name was Satja.
I guess that is my story. There is more, much more but that probably would fill many pages.
