I have a lot of friends with PS3s
Probably 90% of them downloaded Dust, tried it out, got stomped, and then quit. The only person to actually stick with the game for longer than a day was my roommate, and he quit after 1.2 came around and shotgun scouts (his favorite class) died off with the more fluid gameplay.
With 1.4 we see a few BIG changes, and I don't think enough people realize what kind of an impact this update may make.
The first is matchmaking. Currently, the battle is decided by who has the most experienced players. You could have a squad of excellent players working together, but if the other 10 players on your team are all redline sniping because they're noobs, you lose no matter what. This is also important for new players who leave out of the academy, as they will no longer be thrown into matches with proto players all the time.
The second is the removal of team vision. This means that zerg rushing the red chevrons willl not be an option as you will have to find the enemy yourself, unless someone in your squad happens to be using a scanner. This is HUGE. If you are noticed by one red dot, you only have to worry about that red dot, and not the huge swarm that will be at your position shortly. The biggest advantage is given to the scouts here, who won't be detected by the rest of the red swarm if one lone dot decides to stray off to hunt the scout. The scout will only be visible to the person who saw him, and no one else.
Third, we have the updates to aiming, the slower strafe speed, visual effects, turn speed, removal of 5mph murder taxi's, and other weapon and armor balances to help even further. With more things balanced, players will feel better about choosing to play as a heavy or a scout instead of just an assault character. Both of these classes will be making a huge comeback this update with all of the simple fixes that should help each class be more finely tuned. The other fixes will smooth out some choices, and give players more options of what to use as certain weapons and suits will become more useful. _______________________
I just want my friends to see how amazing this game really is and not bring them into a broken mess. Most of you might only care about new weapons or fixing even more problems, but the DEVs finally spent the time to get the most important things figured out first, which was probably the best decision they've made in a while.
So here's to 1.4, and bringing people back. Even though Dust has been down a rough road, this update finally shows promise for a bright future, and I can't wait for what's to come. |
