Don't know if this has been reported, but it's annoying. If you post a message in squad chat in the merc quarters around the time a battle launches, it will often post the message in team chat in the war barge. This is frustrating as squad members will not usually read team chat, so they miss out on my amazing insights. I know I can avoid this by not posting a message when it says 'searching for battle', but if I don't post my message then I lose it altogether, and there may not be the time in the war barge to retype it.
There is a simple fix: make chat in the warbarge default to squad for everyone in a squad. |

This is not a bug, it is a known feature of the game. Once you start "Waiting for deployment", it automatically switches you to team chat, which is kind of annoying when typing something. |

Don't type anything if you are waiting for deployment. |

I agree that defaulting to team chat is probably an intended 'feature', probably supposed to encourage teamwork with random blues. But I don't think taking a message you started typing in squad and dumping it in team can be intended.
For this to be a feature, there would have to be some upside to this. Why would anyone want to lose their message like that? Must be an unintended side effect, i.e. a bug.
Luckily CCP can squash the bug and keep the feature by (1) leaving those currently typing messages in squad chat and (2) defaulting everyone else to team chat. |

What happens and I don't see a reason to change it, is that DUST assumes not everyone is in a squad. So everyone gets set into the team chat. Where both voice and typing are enabled. From a programming stand point that is the most valid situation. The voice is not changed if you are in a squad with voice activated or if you are using an external chat (like Corp for instance). However, voice and typing are two separate issues. Thus solving the typing would be a different effort and is probably not worth spending resources that are scarce.
CCP/Shanghai is stomping all about trying to fix the melee exploit while re-balancing vehicles*. Chat typing would get a lower priority one might guess. Not you I understand. Although I would love to know what you typed that got your fur so ruffled.
This is the first time I have seen someone actually think it is worth any time at all.
Back in the Closed Beta we learned to not do Anything while waiting for battles or deployment. It is actually much better now.

This is the first time I have seen someone actually think it is worth any time at all. Oh nothing important, sometimes I can't use my mic so I might type my squad a comment about something noteworthy/amusing that happened in the last game, that sort of thing. It takes ages to type anything with the software keyboard, so it's annoying to lose it, that's all.
People do use text chat for a variety of reasons (mic is charging/you have people round that you have to talk to/there's a mixture of languages in squad/the squad leader wants specializations written down rather than a clusterkitten on mic/etc). I agree it's not a very high priority, but it would be a very simple fix - just a line of code to say don't put people in team chat if they're typing. |
