good evening, im silverback zero two and on tonights episode of WWYD we conduct a social experiment to see the mentality of the players of DUST 514.
vehicle stealing-
over the past week me and my team have put in place a specific scenario within the public matchs and the results are some what disturbing.
the scenario 1-
a militia dropship was called in at the start of 10 different skimish public matchs and the pilot instead of jumping in waited outside to see what players would do.
the result-
all ten dropships where then stolen by blueberrys without disregard for the teammate who has spent his isk to call it in.
SCENARIO 2-
now lets change things up, instead of a militia dropship we called in 10 python assault dropships one in each different skimish pub match.
the result-
out of the 10 assault dropships 9 were stolen.. thats all but one. one blueberry who was in an organised squad sat in the **** pit and then went on to team chat and said "hey anybody here? whos python is this.. its in the ground spawn?"
he then gave the dropship back to the pilot and we then confessed that it was all part of a social experiment!
we were blown away by this good samaritain and we each gave him 20 million isk for showing us that their is at least one good blue berry in this game. a total of 120 mil isk.
the hero who has chosen to remain anonymous due to PC conflict with the corp he is in, is a testement to the % of players that choose to do the right thing..
out of 20 scenarios only one player did not steal the unnoccupied vehicle.
now ask yourself in that situation.. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? |

Nice experiment! Only thing I would say in defence of the thieves is that a stationary dropship is a sitting duck for forgegunners. Some of them might've thought they're doing you a favour by flying it to where they went to go and recalling. Not that I'd do this; can't fly the things. |

Honestly, I have zero interest in any one elses vehicles. Mine are better.
I just wish there would be less MLT stuff called in at the match start, it really gets my blood boiling when I have to wait for more than a minute while Onikuma after Onikuma comes in. |

I see a vehicle of any sort I tend to run past it as I'm horrible with vehicles but if I do see a abandoned "decaying" LAV I'll take it and use it to move about the map.
And that was pretty damn cool from the one guy, Good Guy Greg moment :) |

I've held tanks for blueberries that were killed calling it in on 3 occasions, sitting in the drivers seat, not moving the tank unless it is threatened. On two of those occasions, I see the same blueberry getting kills later in the match in a different tank. No attempt to retrieve it. The final one, right after the blueberry got killed, he immediately got on team chat to cuss me out for 'stealing his tank.' After I fended off 2 reds hacking it. So I drove it to the redline. |

If that happens to me I usually try to get back to my vehicle and only if I see the blueberry driving away from me for no apparent reason or getting it blown up (for no apparent reason again) will I get to the cursing part, lol... And if I get my vehicle back then I will thank him at the end of the match by mail. |

I fly dropships and have had a few logi and assault dropships stolen by random blueberries because the RDV decided to drop it off Ina another location. The only vehicles I steal are enemy vehicles and the occasional militia jeep that's just sitting in the middle of nowhere, even then I still wait a few seconds to see if anyone comes running after the jeep.
i would defo rage quit in that scenario... been through 4 controlers playing dust.. completely changed my perspective on gaming |

It was 6 v 1 so I deemed it safe to call in my incubus. I was flying around...,then BOOM my ship was rocked to the ground by some proto AV nubelet and his squad of boneheads that just joined. I took note of his name and made sure I killed him each time he spawned in....lets just say it ended with with him sending me some hatemail complaining about how much isk I cost him, to wich I replied "you killed my incubus"

This is the reason I never ever transport blueberries in any of my vehicles (particularly dropships). I will call my dropship in and peace out the second it drops, usually leaving about 3 or 4 blueberries shooting at my dropship trying to get in.
Sorry guys, but the moment I leave my dropship every single one of you wouldn't hesitate to hop in the driver's seat and proceed to crash it into a building or the ground. Until vehicle locks come in I refuse to let anyone besides squad mates into my vehicles. |

Well, I can't fly them for crap, so I would probably leave it there. If I really wanted it, I would look around for the person who called it in, and wait for someone to show up. If no one appeared after about 30-45 seconds, I would take it so it didn't go to waste, thinking that the person forgot or intended it to be used (as is smoetimes the case).
Keep in mind, this is when it is at the home spawn point. If I found a vehicle somewhere else, I will look around and if I don't see a blue doe in the immediate area, I will take the vehicle with the idea of safeguarding it. If I can keep it alive, the owner gets it back at end of match and doesn't lose ISK. If this is something that I hack from the other team, I almost always immediately drive it to the redzone to let it burn. |

Once I called in a Sica, and while I was waiting for it to show up, I got killed.
A guy on my team ran away and let the enemy hack it instead of hopping in and driving away.
If you're standing there, watching the vehicle and not getting in, I'm sorry, but no, "stealing" your vehicle IS NOT THEFT. It's picking up an abandoned vehicle.
If I die when my HAV is about to arrive, and I'm on mic, I encourage my teammates to collect the tank. NOT to "steal" it, because I'm not there to claim it any more. They're SAVING it from being either useless or a benefit to the enemy team. |

That brings up a good point - if it's a BPO I have not qualms at all in taking it under any situation since they can call another in at no cost - I won't take anything someone had to pay for unless I'm trying to save it (as mentioned in a previous post). |

This is also true - if I get killed before I can get into my LLAV, or if I get shot out, I make a beeline for the vehicle when I spawn in, though I am hoping that a blueberry is the reason its not there as opposed to being destroyed or hacked. |

Most vehicles are death traps. Exceptions being a well fit tank, which can still die quickly in a bad pilots hands, and LLAVs.
That and I also don't like having my LAVs stolen, so I don't bother stealing others' vehicles. |

I have a BPO LAV with modules I have to buy. So the fit isn't free even if the hull is.
Also, even if the vehicle is free, if you steal it while the person is under fire or in a vulnerable position you're still f'ing them out of ISK when their suit gets destroyed. |

I try to wait for the ignorant flock of Sheep to take off before I call anything in. If I see anyone 180 beeline towards me I Recall it & shoot face. Here's 3 incidents which made me DESPISE this "Community":
1. Eurotard with Mic proceeds to BlTCH about me hugging the Redline Warning while turning to face "HIS" Turret away from the Battle..... He never left.....just continued to call me multiple Negative Slurs, spammed my Cycled Missiles @ air out of spite, & told me I'm a "BlTCH, F**K your RECALL you ****, P*SSY REDLINE NOOB!!!!!"....etc. I just wanted to go Blaster....
2. EVEtard chases my Tank around the Spire on the Bridge Map while shooting @ me..... He then proceeds to Mail me saying "It's a Team Game, I have 10 Years on EVE, your 1 Mil ISK Tank is nothing. Go back to CoD, you are on the wrong Game." etc..... I informed the Scrub EVEtard that I had more experience in Gaming, cited examples, and stated no CoD had Vehicles except World @ War, thus Irrelevant.
3. Scrubberry hops in my Tank. I hug Redline Warning until .5 Seconds & he hops out. I circle the Map while he chases me. I get some distance & hop out, call in a LAV for him, and drive slowly off. He bypasses the LAV entirely & proceeds to chase me down on foot..... You'd figure he'd @ least be "Smart" enough to hop in the LAV to chase me down.....
There are a sickening amount of incidents like this I was Victim to.....& it F**KING ruins the Game for me every time...... Not that this "Game" wasn't already Ruined, but I digress..... F**K this "Community", F**K Vehicles,F**K AV, & F**K CCP for making New Eden the most TOXIC environment both Ingame & on the Forums |

Until scenarios like mine appear and the vehicle drops, then the driver dies, and they WANT to let other players "steal" it so that there's some vague hope of it remaining alive and in friendly hands.
At the moment, there's already a poorly-implemented (and too short) lock effect when a vehicle is first called. The problem is that "when it's first called" part. The timer starts as soon as you put in the request, and unless the RDV delivers immediately, your "safe" time will expire well before the vehicle reaches the battlefield.
They don't need to give other players a long wait, only a few seconds (which is all you get now when the system actually works right). That's enough if you're actually paying attention to your vehicle's arrival. I think having a 3 - 5 second window AFTER LANDING during which only the owner can enter the driver's seat of the vehicle is reasonable.
When you're getting out of the vehicle, there needs to be a "lock" option (obviously only available to the owner). But when it's first called in, they need a working version of the current system, not a new and creative mess for players to deal with. |
