I was looking at all the concept art for Dust earlier today and thought it would be really sweet to have a map based around a crashed EVE Online ship.
Just to give you guys; who don't know much about EVE ships and sizes, here's a size comparison of a Rifter (small EVE ship) compared to a Boeing 747. If you then go on over to this page, it will should you how small a Rifter is compared to the larger ships EVE has to offer. (Note the Rifter is a tiny dot middle left.)
What I'm proposing would be to have a large socket based around a crashed Destroyer, Battle Cruiser or even a Battleship. This would obviously be all smashed up (maybe broken in half) leaving large openings for players to have CQC "indoor" firefights to take place. In turn; this would then give some of the Dust players who have never experienced EVE, a decent size comparison, give Dust another link to EVE and just how epic EVE Online really is!
If there has already been a post on this; I apologise but it could remind CCP that it would be an awesome map varient to have. |

Few months ago, there was a map where you could see a crashed Titan in the distance. It was part of the Battle for Caldari Prime event. I wish they had kept that map because it looked awesome. |

A titan would be too big. A cruiser would be better. Or an industrial ship. I agree with OPs idea fully. |

Really great idea. CCP could even make a bunch of crashed frigs that could fill in medium map sockets. Just adding that kind of variety would help immersion tremendously and be damn cool to boot! Also, they've already got the ship models to work from so it's a matter of breaking those down and figuring out how to use those elements. I think a crashed drake would be a particularly good structure for PvPing on as a large socket. |

Sounds good and I can see where they could used a "crashed ship" outpost for bonuses and stuff. However I really really want to see the racial outposts first. Imagine all the possibilities,
Amarr, Minmatar, and Gallente Orbital Artillery Amarr, Minmatar, and Gallente Biomass Amarr, Minmatar, and Caldari Communications Amarr, Minmatar, and Caldari Research Lab Amarr, Minmatar, and Gallente Production Facility Amarr, Minmatar, Gallente, and Caldari Cargo Hub
I mean, that is 19 outposts that have priority. And considering CCP LogicLoop claims outposts take 3 months to develop from beginning to release, that means 4 years and 8 months before all these basic ones are out and we can look at other stuff. Actually damn, this kind of has me a bit upset. CCP, hire more map designers! |

Love the idea, it could also be the basis of a recovery game mode, you and the enemy have to break into crashed ship download info or something maybe recover experimental weapon or whatever |

I could imagine that it would involve a lot of work to do this for the Dev team, but even having a small or medium socket could be based around destroyed frigate or newbie ship - which I guess would be easier to do. But wouldn't give us that EVE vs Dust scale.
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I happy to see other people like the idea. |

Another thought that would come even much later than this is having racial debris that could fall out of the sky (like a meteor) during the match whenever an EVE ship in orbit is popped. I.e. we see the explosion in sky and then have a couple pieces of debris rain down on the battlefield a minute later. That would really improve the immersion experience. It could also happen in pub matches just to make things feel cooler (especially in the Academy to get people excited and want to stay). |

Battling on a mining ship fom EVE (don't know specific ship names) would be pretty cool. Like pirates and drones attacked the ship so much that it crash landed on a nearby planet, and mercenaries immediately rushed to secure the minerals on it for their corps. |

I think IGÇÖve found the perfect ship!
The Primae. Seeing as its not exactly tied to any said race thus could be used in any racal orientated map and would provide considerable interior for CQC and the hull itself would be big enough for a large socket.
Heres a quote from the EVE wiki:
Quote:The Primae is a repurposed ORE design intended to ease the task of extracting resources from planetbound environments. In addition, the ship's two large bays have been re-engineered to hold equipment for planetside resource extraction and processed materials, making it an especially useful complement to any planetside harvesting endeavor.
Not only would this bridge the two games together but it would also be a meaningful ship seeing as its role is primarily tied to Planetary Interaction....And it looks pretty damn sexy IMO |

I'm a little disappointed that they said "Might be" in the "distant future." I think adding crashed drones in small sockets would be something they could put together pretty quickly (like for 1.6 or 1.7) since they already have the drone assets from EVE to work with and they wouldn't need to build up elaborate interiors like they would with a large socket. Anyways, I'm glad they're considering it. This was a great idea. |

Personally the idea of finally being able to see these ships at proper scale is reason enough for this idea. It also would be some of the first items that are present in both games, helping to tie the games together.
It might be something that should be done as a full joint expansion. I know there are some eve players who would love to stroll around their ships as well. If the EVE teams could make these models it would take the pressure off the dust devs to try and fit these in with all of the racial infrastructure. |
