I really care about this, I feel like I need to communicate this to the DEV's. I know you DEV's play DUST just like us, but I want to give you some feedback as dedicated pilot.
I know you're planning to emphasize the active modules on vehicles to give them more opportunities. However, I have to say that one of the greatest threats for my vehicles are unexpected and unpredictable ambushes from elevated positions. This would not be such a problem if maps were not designed to be so large and wide open (or if AV weapons had not such a massive range), but currently if you get swarmed or forge-gunned from a distant outpost you have most likely no escape. In these situations, active modules cannot save you, because you cannot predict and avoid the first attack and, even if you activate your booster/hardener then, you can't run fast enough and you can't even realize where the enemy is.
The only thing that occasionally saves me is a solid passive resistance, which gives me the time to jump out and recall my HAV. Especially on plain maps (iron delta, skim junction) with the gallente communication towers as large socket, AV users on top of the building have 360 vision and there is absolutely no cover in the whole map. My only choice is to actually recall my vehicle (if I manage to), which means it gets defused for some time anyway.
In these situations, it's impossible to even call a HAV or a dropship, becuase your enemy will blow it up before the RDV drops it. Powerful Forge guns are actually extremely efficient massive-area vehicle-denial instruments and they are extremely hard to take down, especially for a pilot who probably does not have many SP into infantry skills (they can still respawn if they die, while pilots cannot call multiple vehicles all the time because of the massive cost).
My second character is a Heavy specialized both in HMG and Forge Gun and I know pretty well the power and the opportunities offered by that AV weapon and I know how it feels being the "killer" and the "victim" and their perspectives.
This is not a thread to complain about AV's range and efficiency, but to express how much vehicles need a solid passive resistance for the pilot to have at least one chance to retreat or recall, which is not possible sometimes.
Thank you very much for reading this. |
