Can't find anything on it.
Is there something I missed?
Why is it being removed?
The Active Scanner paired with Squad Vision is invaluable in painting targets for squad/team movements and placing orbital strikes.
Is there some kind of caveat under way? |

Well, now the active scanner is the only way to get squad vision. I imagine it's an indirect buff to stealthy play styles. |

When we say 'squad vision' do we mean across or within squads? I originally thought passive/aim scanning was going to be the latter whilst Active Scanning was going to be team wide still - but I think I read a post by Wolfman indicating both types of scanning would be within squads.
Hope it's not true - that seems a nerf if anything since you now light yourself up to potentially the entire enemy team to provide intel to only some of yours. |

CCP says specifically in the DEV blog that they felt the game was too much "search and destroy the red chevrons"
This is one of the biggest problems to the game, because it allows everyone to just swarm together where the enemy is and stop the team into the redline without any sort of teamwork necessary.
Without team vision, if one player is able to see the group of red dots, the whole team won't just converge on that point unless more players see that red dot. This encourages squad play as all members in the squad can see red dots that other squad members can see.
Not only this, but everyone is going to become less detectable after the update, meaning that scouts will finally have their "role" bonus. Active scanners will become much more valuable with the update as well, instead of being as useless as they are now. Getting points for scanning won't come until 1.5 though :/ _____________________
So basically...
Players will be much harder to detect Active scanners will now have a use Scouts get a much needed stealth buff The game will be much more fun and balanced
This and the new matchmaking system will make matches much more interesting and strategic. |

If Squad Vision is being removed, what good is the Active Scanner? It doesn't provide WP currently, but it's still one of the most powerful pieces of equipment anyone can put on.
People are already pretty hard to detect when you don't have line-of-sight.
Hm. Idk. Squad Vision was one of the most useful things in this game. Another one of the few things done correctly from the get-go. This essentially penalizes squad play.
Whatever... there are reasons I haven't played for the last several days. I'll just add this to the list. |

Active scan results will be shared with your squad.
The rest of your team is reliant on voice comms and cueing off of where other blue dots are. |

The active scanner is replacing squad vision. The active scanner WILL REVEAL the enemy to your squad, ONLY. It won't reveal it to your team. Your team will not share intel about red-dots between squads. You'll probably be able to ADS blue-dots and see them taking damage and know there are red-dots near them, but that's it.
This doesn't penalize squad play hardly at all. It will penalize squads that are all nanohive assault squads, yes. It penalizes the zergswarming teams that dominated only because they always outnumbered the enemy in engagements.
Be prepared, a new strategy for beating the enemy in engagements will be surprises as much as it will be about tank or DPS advantage. |

Scouts were being ****** over.
Since their playstyle was reliant on stealth play, whenever someone in a Squad put their crosshair over said Scout, he would light up on everyone's map, which is just not fair.
It will promote teamwork, people will now have to call out when they see a Scout, instead of the game doing all the work for them. |

If it helps Scout play, then I'm all for that. Just doubt it will be enough to give scouts a real chance. Everything is hypothetical until it's actually here. :( |

Wow so much misinformation in this thread. Just to clarify:
Shared squad vision is gone.... while a completely backwards and confusing term, it means squads will no longer share the tacnet info with each other. You still have shared vision with squad mates, just not team mates.
Except for the active scanner. Which will show results only to players in other squads.
Players not in a squad will neither send nor receive information from active scanning. |
