Attack on a Titan
The attack pod shook as lasers and hybrid rounds flew past. I looked down at my arm, the visual display not only showed vital statistics about the pod; shields, armor and hull; but it was essential for my role of hacker. The distance meter showed that we were approaching the primary target.
A few weeks before my CEO had taken a contract with another corporation, the details didnGÇÖt interest me. All I cared about was that we would get paid. Over the last few weeks I have fought on dozens of worlds, every one different but the same. I wasnGÇÖt there to look at the surroundings I was there to secure my objectives and the district for the corporation. I did my job and did it well.
As the meter approached zero I checked my magazine, I was using a scrambler rifle instead of my normal Mass driver because the contract signer requested as little collateral damage as possible and the grenade launcher was very bad with collateral damage.
I felt the pod shudder as we made contact with the shields of the titan. The armor of the Avatar is strong, now that we were in contact with the ship we could hear the massive capital ship weapons fire, the hum of the engines and the drill of the pod ripping through the thick armor. After a few minutes the sound of the drill changed and the drills stopped. A light on the door turned red.
GÇ£Command this is Green Squad, we have breached the Titan on deck 8, commencing to secondary objective,GÇ¥ my squad leader said.
GÇ£Confirmed Green Squad, Proceed with caution until you secure the hangar bay. Heavy resistance expected as you approach the Capsule.GÇ¥
GÇ£Confirmed, command.GÇ¥ My squad leader said, he then turned to us in the pod, GÇ£Our orders are to secure the Titan for our employers, the corporation, and thus you, is getting paid well for this weapon. Money is not an object, use all of your best gear when you get killed. We are moving in, three...two...one...GO!GÇ¥
The doors opened and pulse laser fire filled the pod, several of the men were killed instantly. Several flux grenades and shield bubbles were deployed, the whine of plasma cannons filled what was left of the pod, explosions resounded from the hallway as the Commandos blasted the anti-infantry turrets with the heavy GÇÿlightGÇÖ weapons. they enter the hallways and shout clear, I run out and place down a nanohive to restock the ammunition and repair armor. The squad doesn't stay put for long, quickly we start the continuous firefight with auto-turrets and small laser cannons until we reach the hangar bay. I knew that the Egger in charge of this fourteen kilometer monstrosity was already aware of our presence. In fact I noticed that several of the turrets had seemed to be manned, as the accuracy of the weapons increased.
I looked at the HUD, the map showed that we were one door from the hangar bay. The doors were closed in an attempt to keep us contained inside the hallways. A commando and assault both tried to hack the door but the capsuleer had already put advanced encryptions on it.
I pushed the two dead weights at hacking out of the way, i had purchased encryption algorithms from Jita a few weeks before that I was dying to try out (sometimes literally). I started the hacking attempt, my hacking program tore through the firewalls and encryptions like paper. Within seconds the door opened to the hangar bay.
We rushed into the bay expecting resistance and was shocked when there was nothing firing at us. The bay was filled with drones of all shapes and sizes, most of them were intended for ship to ship combat. Thankfully none of them were active.
GÇ£Green and Blue squads, we have mobile CRUs and dropships incoming, once you have secured the hangers allow the force fields to allow our ships in,GÇ¥ a voice from command said into everyones headset. i immediately ran over to the console and started hacking the command interface.
i was almost done when the capsuleer tried something new to get rid of us. Like a dog trying to get rid of fleas. I saw it a few seconds before it happened.
GÇ£Magboots!GÇ¥ I yell, seconds later the hanger doors lose the force fields and those men that listened stayed in place. Those that didnGÇÖt or didnGÇÖt have them equipped were blown out of the ship and left to drift in space. The fields come back online as soon as the bay is depressurized. The cycling of the doors caused me to lose the hack so I began again, this time the hack was faster since I already knew the paths I needed to take.
I bring down the fields just in time for five heavily armored troop transports to land inside the bay. dozens of reinforcements pour out of the ships, many of them were not clones but normal people. I looked at the shabby looking drop suits and crude weapons and surmised that they were Minmatar. Even though the weapons and suits looked like they were held together with duct tape I knew from personal experience to not mess with them. One of the soldiers came to my console and took over from me. I was needed elsewhere, my squad was moving towards the main corridor, deeper into the bowels of the massive titan. |
