currently at a mining op in new eden, and i've noticed that there are tractor beams pulling containers full of loot and i said to myself:
"why dont we fit a dropship with this beam and pull up our guys out of harms way should the need arise"
so here is the idea, squadmate is flying a dropship, surveying the battlefield then his Sqd leader calls for a quick pickup. Pilot knows that there are a fair number of forge rounds flying everywhere and he'll have only seconds to make the pickup.
so he decided to simply hover a fair distance from the ground and activates the beam, the squad leader and whats left of his squad are suddenly lifted up off the ground and back up into the dropship. cargo secured, the pilot puts the afterburners on full blast and they fly to safety.
Restrictions: very high cooldown time, to prevent spamming the beam all over the place
squad based module, you need to lock on to the squad first in order to activate the beam
benefits: Rapid extraction
incentive to fly dropships for your squad
DAT SCENERY
anyways i've rambled long enough, there's the idea ,what do you think?

Allowing it to effect reds would be nice. See a sniper on a tower and yank him up, and throw him off.
Also, allow it pick up squad vehicles (give it tiers so at ADV it can lift LAVs and at PRO it can lift HAVs).
Either way you have a solid idea.

Not feeling so hot about the tractor beam and players per se, as in lifting them out of a situation, but how about setting up a trip wire kind of mechanism? Set up two relays, and a tractor beam activates between them. Any vehicle trying to drive through them gets stuck in place until the beam is brought down.
Slightly less OP in my opinion, but interesting enough.
EDIT: Make it a Minmatar design, since they tend to re-purpose more industrial items. |

I'd love to pick up and swing around those pesky sniper Store Bought tanks who hide in the redline and recall as soon as I ding them with my sniper rifle.. Perhaps right as he's trying to recall it. That's be GLORIOUS.
Better idea.. New Dropship type. Repurposed Bolas. We can pick up vehicles with it and place them. We have no offensive or defensive capabilites beyond this. |

Hmm, for use with infantry? Not so much, dropships are meant for insertion, however what if you allowed dropships to physically drop there passenger module the pick it by landing on it? Easy in easy out!

It should have to be activated by a corresponding infantry equipment to make it more squad oriented. it could be that you pick up the area around the beacon. |

I'm with Alpha. Pull folks off of those god-dang rooftops. Immobilize LLAVs so they can't outrun AV. Tow hostile Dropships from behind. Etc, Etc ...

I could see some easy griefing coming from this, so i purpose when you go over and try to do it to a teammate, they have to hit X to jump up into the beam.
For reds you would pick them up and drop them off wherever |

Considering it is for dropships i dont think it could be OP right now. Dropships need so much help its not funny. 1 proto swarm launcher can really ruin their day. I used to think forge guns were the rulers for damaging vehicles but i was so wrong. Swarms are so much easier to use and nearly always hit. I think the proto FG might do a little more damage but the swarms can lock and shoot faster. Swarm users also dont have to be exposed for nearly as long.
I really do like this idea tho ESPECIALLY for myself and other heavies. We cant go anywhere in a hurry by our self. |

got off work today ( i work at a donut shop ) and flash of inspiration occured
Take reference to this photo here, it was my idea of it as a grenade: http://sadpanda.us/images/1827849-XRAQ4IF.jpg
Figure 1 is the picture of the grenade before priming
Figure 2 is the grendade ,primed and ready to throw
Figure 3 is the throwing of the grenade
4 is the grenade detonating , propelling the two part of the TB grenade against opposite ends of the wall
5 is a trigger wire or trip wire connecting the two of the halves together.
6-8 show what would happen if anything trips the wire, the halves activate a tractor beam, pulling the target back in the middle of both devices for a certain amount of time.
Better Explanation of a DS version of the tractor beam idea. http://sadpanda.us/images/1827852-56SII3R.jpg
1. squad is pinned down, requests for an emergency pick up,
2. dropship arrives and targets the remnants of the squad, lock on time varies between other versions of the T.B, as well as how many people you can target.
3. Dropship is finished with lock on, Squad is "Pulled" up towards the dropship,
4. Dropship pulls away from harm, enemy is alone >:]
any more thoughts?
EDIT: i've had some problem with this site as i was uploading it. please be patient and reload a few times for the pictures to appear. if not, let me know and i'll re-upload |

I really like this idea and i think the only way that this needs to be balanced is slow "ascension" speed so you can't make squad member unkillable. This would mean at militia/std it's a utility for picking up squad members faster than landing and at AVD/PRO the ascension speed is faster so you can pick them up while they're fighting the enemy. I think this would actually be an awesome balanced addition cause if the dropship tries to abuse it by picking up and dropping people right before they die, people will just shoot the damn thing down. |
