Well wholly crap I been getting blown away with em for months an I couldn't hit heavy to save my life with 2clips for the past two weeks, Until today! Guess my clone turned off the safety switch cuz today I was owning dude s, an I have no clue what I did differently, made me actually have a awesOme day, thanks ccp |

Your thanks may be premature. I've been using the Shotgun for quite some time and its (litterally) hit or miss.
In addition to the hit detection phantom bullets that is confirmed to affect all weapons, the shotgun is also prone to server / client lag. I find that depending on when I play the accuracy varries. When I play regularily at 6am my time it rarely has major issues but when I'm playing at peak hours I find that many many shots will completely whiff even when the enemy is right there in my reticule.
We will see how the 1.4 hit detection improves the shotgun but I have a feeling it will be more of a boost to Auto and Semi auto weapons as minor lag on either side seems to cause misses that hit dectection won't fix.
Because of the severe close range required by the shotgun when you throw some "dancing" into the mix a slight adjustment to the left or right is the difference between whiffing or a kill, throw a tiny bit of lag into the mix and what youre seeing as a direct hit actually ended up being 2 feet to the left/right of where the server says the target is. You dont get this as bad with med/long range weapons as much because your reticule generaly covers the target and with medium engagement ranges movement to either side does not result in a target immediately falling outside your reticule. |

For what it is worth, last night I ran into another Anon player (not you, he had two numbers at the end of his name) who went like 25-3 with a shotgun. It was like 3am NYC time, and he wasn't missing much (or at least he wasn't missing ME very much lol ). Might be time to break out the shotgun suit again...Leadfoot |

This...SO MUCH THIS.
In the morning when I play from around 7am - 11am EST, the shotgun is amazing and I can get scores such as 26/5, 19/3, 17/2, etc, but once you hit prime time hours (around 5pm - 12am EST), the shotgun falls victim to lag issues and terrible hit detection issues. |

Once every 2 months is about right. I'll try it a couple times a day. After a match, maybe 2, I'm on to AR 514.
1.4 should have some long overdue hit detection fixes. We shall see...

Im completely speculating but... I believe that if CCPs "fix for hit detection" is addressing the "phantom bullets" you will see a definate reduction in the time on target to drop an enemy. This is why I think ARs are so good. Shoot 60 bullets and 45 actually register and 30 of those hit and you got yoruself a kill. Fire a charged scrambler that doesnt register or 2 of 5 of your followup shots miss and your left feeling like your gun sucks or is underpowered. Fixes in this area will be an immediate boost to all weapons with possibly the medium ROF ones like Breach, TAC, Scr benifitng the most as 1 phantom bullet is much more of a loss to DPS than with an AR.
Again, phantom shots with the shotgun areonly part of the issue. Since the shotgun is an all-or-nothing type of weapon in Dust the problem gets way more publicity than what I believe is a server/client issue. Its very easy to tell that your shots didnt register because you can clearly see nothing came out of the gun. The lag issue is way more touchy.
When people complain about lag the problem usually is tossed aside as "Get a better connection" but time and time again I have seen that in off-peak hours my shotgun performance is signifcantly better than when I play during peak. It's not even the players either as I see the same people who play all the time playing at all hours. I really do think that peak times put more load on the server then account for possible congestion in my local area at those times and you now those split millisecond timing differences become deal breakers for the Shotgun. Taking it from a solid weapon to borderline crap.
Maybe the aim magnetism will help this? Help keep your sights glued and les prone to small adjustments that turn your shot into a whiff? I certainly hope so, otherwise I think with the improvements to aiming, turn speeds, hit detection, my Shotgun scout will end up down the toilet.
Just so I'm not ranting and offering any constructive thoughts.... What about changing up the Shotgun from its "All-or-nothing" approach as a weapon and making it more of a CQC suppression category? If the game mechanic tweaks dont help the Shotty why not look at tweaking its role?
- Substantially increase the Shotguns spread, creating a sort of "cone" that is fired - Damage can probably remain the same as the large spread will probably result in less 1 or 2 hit kills from anything beyond 4m - Increase the effective range. Currently I think the CreDon has a max of 30m for hits to even register but the damage drop off cuts at about 10-15m. Maybe give it full effectiveness up to 20m with a sharp cut-off. Again the large dispersion will not have anyone 1 shotting people beyond the in-your-face range -Give the hits a "movement stutter". This already happens when you are hit by a Mass Driver, its very breif but it serves a purpose
Now you have a decent CQC weapon that can be used not to clear rooms but to definatly put some pressure on the enemy and limit their ability to retreat adding some suppressive functions in CQC. |

It's such a strange weapon, I hit more when I'm not on target like if a guys swaying left to right I just shoot the middle an hope for the best lol. But your right at night time six hours before server shut down its crap, after they came back on I was smashing every target, but what I do notice is I ll fire a shot, the guy is still there for about 2 sec just as I get ready to shoot again, he disappears an I see +50.
I even went so far as to hard wire the ps3 an also turn off aim assist, I'm a scout so for a while I was using the mtl bpo, I thought it was good till a guy was killing me with mad range wit the crg so I switched after the match an for some reason I find that the crg an the allotech breach have the best range an hit detection.
It really brought fun back to the game , it's my first awesome night playing in months with everything working right, lol if they ever permanently fix this I ll be a beast lol |

I truly believe CCP is constantly tweaking stuff during DT (or they stealth it in the game when they say "Storefront changes", cause we have to re-sync each time that happens).
Cause I notice weapons acting differently all the time, sometimes they are better, sometimes they are worse, even if nothing has changed on my end. |

I was squadding with you this morning, and it did my logi heart good to rep you up after watching you come back from a lethal shotgun pinball trip through the redberry bushes. Glad the fun games brought you back to the fun. |
