I just built a new sli gaming rig a few days ago...
After playing a number of shooters, then coming back to Dust... The difference is astounding. When people say the aiming is bad in Dust, it's BAD. I don't mean auto assist or acceleration issues; Wolfman said he would get to that. I'll try to give specifics:
Axis Sensitivity itself inconsistent. I can aim horizontally fine; but trying to aim vertically is suddenly a pain. Aiming sensitivity is not consistent across all axis. Moving your mouse in a circular pattern gives you a horizontal oval output on screen. This is not supposed to be so. The sensitivity drop when ADS is also inconsistent. Your sensitivity plummets HORRIBLY. (@ fellow kb/m players. please run any shooter with your kb/m just to confirm my findings). I wonder if part of this has to do with keeping kb/m "balanced" against gamepad.
Then there is the graphics and maps. We already know from FanFest, that CCP's art department is capable of providing way more content than is currently allowed in game. They aren't allowed to release the maps and textures that they want, because they can't go over budget with the amount of hdd space they consume on PS3.
These two points tell me that the PS3 is total deadweight to Dust's development.
How many people here have played Crysis 3 at maximum settings at 1920x1080 resolution on a 3D monitor, with a 1ms refresh rate. 75Hz? (Just high enough not to cause ghosting.) At well over 60+ fps? I have. How many have seen a BF3 at max output settings, 1920x1080, etc? I have.
I want to do the same with Dust.
I want to see Dust 514 at settings like that. With the same aiming smoothness of those games (anyone that has played those two games knows how smooth the aiming is, especially on PC), and then just add the open-world aspects of EVE. If we mercs are supposed to co-exist with the empyreans, let us CO-EXIST with them. Not live in sardine cans.
I really don't care what happens to the ps3 anymore. I'm not a fanboy of PC over Console or anything. I won't deny myself the benefits of either. But I really think Dust would flourish wonderfully if brought to PC and developed there, then simply port the output of that to PS4 or some other console later.
PC gamers are far more patient when it comes to dealing with flaws like this, and CCP would be in a better place to fix things. We already know that Sony gave them a hardtime with just their monthly patch schedule.
Both Sony and the PS3 are dead weight to this game right now, and the game ends up taking the heat for it.
Bring it to PC, develop it there, in friendly territory, then bring it back to the consoles later, where the console players would expect and deserve a more complete game.

At the risk of the post coming across as a non-sequitur, I'll try to tie in some points better.
The point of the aiming was meant to indicate that in attempting to balance kb/m with ds3, aiming is screwed for everyone overall.
The point of the graphics limitations is obvious. Dust has parameters that it MUST work within on PS3. Parameters that do not exist on PC.
Final point was that the game could use more and faster development love, but the schedules for releasing patches on PS3 could interfere with that. On PC, they could do big patches at will, daily.
Great games are usually ported from PC to Console, why not do the same with Dust. Give it love on the PC, then release it as a polished work of art for PS4 later. |

Vyzion Eyri wrote:But this uncontrollably open forum, the impatience, the foot-stamping and chest-pounding, the epeen-stroking and pubstomping, the protobearing and blueberry splattering, it is what makes DUST the other window through which we view New Eden. From a console point of view, from the view of FPS players, not of players who're multiboxing EVE as they play DUST.
I think it's worth pursuing exclusivity on PS3/4, just because of that. Just because those who purchase these consoles can voice their opinion of New Eden from a totally different viewpoint. In this regard, CCP is gaining invaluable information about its long-term plan.
If we had DUST on PC, then I'm willing to bet almost every DUST player will play EVE too, with some who won't due to the subscription. But the point is, some of the feedback coming from here is from people who have NEVER been exposed to EVE nor New Eden before, and this fresh-eyed view is needed. This is the twenty-first century and instant gratification is DEMANDED. Impatience is filtering down into the younger generations. If CCP finds the solutions to this new era through having DUST on the PS3, I'm not going to complain.
Point is, it's NOT satisfying that instant gratification. I'm not, and never have been an EVE player; so I'm sort of a part of that fresh perspective that you say is needed. What do I want? - Better integration and mingling with EVE. Literally, "EVE Junior". (We don't have that. I think the reason for this is three-fold. 1. PS3 can't handle the open-world shooter format that is going to be dominating on next-gen consoles and PC; 2. The Devs simply haven't gotten around to it yet, and 3. they haven't gotten around to it yet because they are struggling with the PS3's technical limitations. See what I did there?)
- Integration between Dust 514 and the upcoming EVE: Valkyrie (which is going to be on PC). This just feels inevitable. Especially if "fighters" are going to be introduced in the future. Dust CANNOT stay a PS3 exclusive nor a console exclusive, otherwise EVE and Valkyrie WILL leave it behind. I have no problem with a PS4 client, but this crap about console exclusivity is hurting it. The fact that we don't have word on future clients (PC, PS4, etc.) is also a problem.
- 1920x1080 resolution graphics at 60+ fps, with high res textures, FX, and shadows. This is the most insignificant request. It's vain, but it's a legit request. The graphics for Dust are ancient. If someone can't recognize this, they have been living under a rock. CCP is a very capable company with very talented employees, but you can't sculpt art out of *****.
Essentially, the PC, as I said, will give Dust the tlc and development it needs. The Sony contract has Dust's hands tied. Dust goes to PC, gets really awesome, then a port for PS4 and XB1 can be optimized later. I see PC and console players being a part of Dust's future. But CCP, has got to stop developing for this ancient console, because it doesn't seem to be helping Dust grow.

Raw input aiming... I can't even begin...
The POS3 is deadweight and its holding this game back a lot, there is no doubt about it.
Amen man. I'm sure they'll announce SOMETHING, but every day they waste "planning" something on PS3, or optimizing this broken engine, is another day that could have been spent furthering along PC/PS4 development.

Mobius Wyvern wrote:nakaya indigene wrote:+1 thread, CCP your fan base for eve is on PC. you had ALOT of potental players (more than there is now) when you announced dust. EVERY eve player ive played with (yes im an eve player ,since08) said they would play dust if it were on PC, and that they would NEVER play it on a console. The console market is dead until ps4. the console players think dust is broken they have been alienated by the academy nerf, dust is broken and is beyond fixing because unreal suxs (even the dev world dislikes UE) game reviewers reiterated that the game has CORE problems, not with just aiming. why is the player/fan base being shut out? So, reaching out to anyone who doesn't play PC games should just never be done? Why is that? I give them props for doing this, honestly. Yeah, they've had a rough-ass time of it so far, but that new EP seems to know what he's doing, and it's looking like we're getting back on track for their plans on asset release.
Well, I don't think that's what the guy was trying to say.
It's good that CCP has reached into the console market, but it's as he says, the console exclusivity kinda shuts out their player fan/base. In particular the hard-heads that refuse to buy a ps3, all things considered I don't blame them.
Ideally, we want players from both markets. The intention of Dust was to bridge the gap between the two player bases, for CCP's universe, with the long-term outcome of increasing the EVE playerbase, and many other benefits. The PS3 on its own can't shoulder this burden, dare I say, consoles alone can't do it. Console exclusivity for Dust won't accomplish this. But with Dust being available for PC and maybe even other consoles in the future, THAT will do it. Dust has to be a game that everyone can dive into from any medium to really have the gap bridged. Obviously, PC has hardware advantages, so the graphics would be better, but that could simply be a step in the right direction. People will enjoy Dust, and may want to try it on their PCs, in turn, they may want to try EVE or even Valkyrie because of it. If we don't open the floodgates of development, things will just keep creeping along.
Yeah, it's a huge undertaking, but that's never stopped CCP before.
Maybe the new EP has this under control, and I'm just being impatient.
I own every major medium right now; PC, PS3, X360, and Wii. All I'm missing is the Vita. So I'm just trying to give a perspective from someone who has no major unreasonable preference.
But if it's put on PC, CCP can open a test server for the PC players and it will be hardcore development time for Dust. Let the PC guys have it, and help CCP develop it, then optimize the game for consoles later. Give the console guys a polished game. So we don't get all the flak we get right now. |
