spoiler: It's not
The gameplay is too generic, the balance is terrible, the SP system is idiotic, the maps are awful, and the servers are unreliable. If you want to play competitive FPS there are so many better choices out there that only rejects and cheapskates are playing Dust 514. The Dust 514 "elite" are the fastest kids in the Special Olympics. |

Play battlefield with C4, jets, helos, motorbikes, etc if you just want to pub and have fun.
For me personally, it's the community. Subdreddit is an awesome community, and derping about with the guys (and gals) in our corp is fun enough to keep me coming back for a few matches a week. Furthermore, if you step away from competitive play and just play to have fun, there's all sorts of goofy stuff you can to do enjoy the game much more than is possible in PC (where everyone is min-maxing). Hanging in a casual squad with friends while drinking some beers and chattering about your day while simultaneously running spider tanks, or running 6 heavies with lasers, or all scouts with nova knives, or flying 6 dropships at once, etc etc is all pretty fun. Playing 16 tryhards vs 16 tryhards trying hard to prove you're the best at a game that is fundamentally terrible for "serious" play, is not. |

Their are some cool kids in subdreddit. That i'll give ya. A lot of em. It's just sad that comments like yours will never allow NPRZ to gain the traction he needs to get Narwhal Guard or w/e never group wants to play to win and improve as a group through PC off the ground.
I don't see how my comments keep other people from doing what they want. I think the reality is that most people who try out Dust 514 agree with me, thus the reason such a teeny tiny little sliver of players actually play Dust 514 even though it's a free game, and why only a tiny sliver of people who actually play the game actually play PC.
You're insulated from popular opinion in your PC focused corp that is only interested in "serious" players, and thus it's understandable why you have such an unrealistic and biased view of the game. I'm echoing the majority opinion, the majority isn't echoing me. |

I think you avoid the posts intention, which is that there are members of subdreddit that wish they could have a competitive group, I was one of them, and I know more continue on because they keep in touch (<3). NPRZ is just one shining example. Your comments discourage them from piping up in a hivemind community, I know a certain few keep low profiles about their desire for more, and you attitude contributes to that decision. That's all. I don't think you stone people for wanting to be competitive, and I don't think it's wrong for you to have that opinion, it's yours. I have had friends from BF3 and other console shooters and they wouldn't commit because they found it was 2 difficult to kill anyone and they died 2 quick, explaining that the playing field is uneven and that they needed to "level up" enticed them to buy some passive boosters and go into hibernation, I hope this is true for many, don't know. I'll concede now that i've been in TP's for 3 months, I may be out of touch. "Serious" players may be inaccurate, i think "skilled and teamwork oriented" is more appropriate.
If people in Subdreddit want to play PC, it's their own responsibility to make it happen. Many different people have attempted to out together more "serious" groups, but no one ever shows. The overwhelming consensus is that PC is garbage.
For example, as I type this, have a PC battle in about 10 minutes. We've got about 35 player online. They can't get 16 people to play the battle. So again, if there are people in Subdreddit interested in PC, they need to either step up and get involved, or find another corp they are more comfortable in. It's just that simple. |

I wouldn't say that you're echoing the majority of the playerbase. You may be echoing the majority of your clan members, however.
Well, that's quite certainly possible as well. However, I do think my corporation has a much higher percentage of casual and semi-casual players than most, including yours. I think the sentiment in Subdreddit is probably somewhat closer to that of the blueberry majority than the sentiment you'd be exposed to in Ahrendee or TP. That's not meant as an insult to your guys, or mine, it just is what it is.
We do have a contingency of "serious" players, but many end up leaving for more "serious" corp rather than trying to build a team from here. We've got many old members in just about every major PC corp in the game. Some people prefer the exclusivity and structure provided in those corps, and that's okay.
Quote:Because out of all the people in my corp, only 2 prefers not to play pc. Everyone else, despite qualifications, sp, roles, and experience wishes to play in all of our pc matches. I've had people join because their corp is not interested in pc, etc.
But you see, that last sentence above is my point. You guys have a reputation for being a PC corp. You have that reputation because it's relatively easy to figure out which corps are into PC, because there are so few of you. People in your corp want to play PC, because your corp is one that attracts people who want to play PC.
How many people do you guys have in EoN? 1300 or so? How many did we manage to wrangle up for the FEC? Maybe 800?
And that's counting every single person in each of the involved corps. How many more would you say there are of corps that actually care about PC? Another 1000 if we're being generous?
So, there's maybe what, 3000 people who are even in corporations that participate in PC at all?
It's safe to say not everyone in those corporations give a ****. Look at my corp, we're 300 strong and sometimes have trouble finding 16 people willing to play. We can have 40 guys online, and they have to beg people to join to fill the matches.
Hell, how many PC battles get scheduled in a day? If we take a quick look at rust415, it looks like there's currently 43 districts under attack. That's 1300 players set to participate in PC ffor the next 47 hours... or approximately 28 players per hour.
So, let's just be generous and give the average player count per hour at 3000 (much lower than it actually is). That means a whopping 1% of players are participating in PC at any given time.
I don't know about you, but to me, 1% seems like a pretty low percentage of interest in the mode. Do you really believe the people playing PC are the top 1% of FPS players who play the game? Or could it maybe be that the way Dust 514 is designed is antithetical to the gameplay dynamic present in the mode, and thus the vast majority of the playerbase is skipping it entirely?
Quote:If I had to guess, corps that feel like they can compete, do so. Others may have accepted their position and are just casual. Then there are those that can't compete with anyone on any level but still try (which is commendable).
As brilliantly passive aggressive as that statement is, I have to say I think it's complete horse ****. |

"may"
You "may" want to grab a district to call your own.
You also may not. You might simply find PC to be a joyless and bland experience full of FOTM min-maxing.
Ydubbs81 RND wrote: Because you know that you can defend your district against (at least) some of the corps and conquer a few others. But if you look at the pc map and know that you can't beat most of the corps, then you may not care about it. STB probably has the most active players and what is the general concensus of their clan? Are there more people who wish to pc or more that don't care about it?
Well again, my own corp has 300+ active members and we have trouble finding 16 people to play PC battles. |

So it seems we agree then?
The very large majority of the community does not participate in PC for various reasons, and participation (or lack thereof) in PC does not really clearly indicate the level of a particular player or corp's skill. |

Ydubbs81 RND wrote: Well, sure...the large majority of the community does not participate in PC because MH is small and EoN controls most of the land. So, in order for a new corp to get in, they have to beat an indie or an EoN corp to get in.
I thought you agreed that we can't know why people aren't playing PC? Only 1/5 of the districts in MH are attacked on a day to day basis, and there are 100+ districts that EoN doesn't control. MH is plenty large enough for the small player base and the teeny tiny percentage of that player base (~1%) that is actually participating in it.
Ydubbs81 RND wrote: I don't think that pc participation implies that you have skill but if you I feel that those that could compete, skill-wise...do compete.
Which is a direct contradiction.
Which is it?
Ydubbs81 RND wrote: And there may be some that wish to but know that they don't have either the numbers or the skill to beat a corp an enter pc. At the same time, there may be some real casuals that have never had any desire to participate in pc. And we don't know how many people prefer not to or to play in pc.
Or, 99% of the population just doesn't care about PC to begin with because it's a crap mode in a game that has mechanics that don't transfer well to "serious" or "competitive" play. |
