Just to reach a basic catalyzer, we have to go level 5 into biotic upgrades? Is this an error, or has it always been that way? Seems a bit ridiculous, having to spend over 600k SP in biotic upgrades alone to get a catalyzer that is only saving a few PG/CPU over the militia one that has no requirements and gives the same bonus.
I reached complex catalyzer on my main quite a while ago, and was thinking of putting a little into my alt. But the requirement for basic is just insane. I knew when I skilled into these on my main it was quite pricey to reach complex, but I don't remember having to drop 600k+ SP just to reach basic.
In order to get a catalyzer that has a bonus greater than militia (enhanced) it takes over 1 million SP. These things are already very pricey when it comes to CPU/PG usage, but why are these modules so over-the-top? |

Yea just for a little sprint speed, which accounts to getting to objectives three seconds faster after a full sprint.
You can "feel" the speed, but it doesn't provide much benefit in the long term. Especially in relation to the overall costs (PG/CPU/SP) |

I agree that the cost is very high, but the benefit is massive for me. As a preface I'm an Amarr Assault. With how worthless Armor is at the moment, I speed tank. Mobility saves my life more than armor ever would. I run two complex kin cats and 1 complex cardio regulator. SPRINT FOR DAYS. |

I think one of the reasons is so people can't go running at almost 7 m/s (number's probably not right and is just an edumacated guess) with just their starter SP and perhaps one pool of SP. But I do too believe that it's quite a few too many skill points just for something that makes you run faster. Ought to be like other operations: level 5 costing 310,000 or whatever the number is--it's somewhere in that range. |

Just curious, but what is your stamina and sprint speed with this setup? |

Before, it was a skill that did nothing for you except unlock the modules at level 1, 3, and 5.
Now it's a skill that unlocks more skills at level 1, 3, and 5.
It should really be: Stamina Modules at level 1 biotics Melee modules at 2 biotics Sprint mods at 3 biotics.
If you want to skill into biotics a bit more for the extra movement and sprint speed that would be optional, but not required to use sprint mods.
This would also make it like other skills. For instance, armor plates are unlocked at level 1 armor skill and armor repairers are unlocked at level 3 armor skill. They don't require you to max the skill (which takes a ton of sp to do) just to unlock the skills that let you use better equipment.
I really want to skill into kin cats right now, but the last level of biotics is what's holding me back. |

Yeah man it's a good question, and a simple one at that, it makes no sense and it makes kin cats unavailable for a newberry starting at 500k who is used to Scout roles and a speedy character |

I think the SP cost is one of the main reason for LAV spam. In the open beta it was much easier to avoid LAV's. Didnt even need catalyzers. |

Uh, let me guess. 'Cause they don't know what they are doing?
Yep, that is what I am going with.
Basic RPG rules would indicate that most play sessions (a week down here in the DUST) should reward the player with Something Worth Having. Which DUST does well enough initially. Once you are at lvl 3 for nearly anything every experience takes on a much more dreary outlook.
How about a simple race drop suit solution, expand for all four races.
(Race base) lvl 1 - allows basic assault, scout or heavy. lvl 2 - allows basic logistics (two equip slots) lvl 3 - targeted assault, targeted logistics, heavy specialties (STD level suits) lvl 4 - enables ADV lvl 5 - enables PROTO
Additional SP is required for the following (expand for all suit types)
Assault lvl 1 - standard slots, low cpu/pg lvl 2 - standard slots, med cpu/pg lvl 3 - more slots, med cpu/pg lvl 4 - more slots, high cpu/pg lvl 5 - max slots, max cpu/pg
This is just an example but the entire Skill Tree should be structured more like this. Adding specific race based suits, weapons and vehicles would all just tie in easily as art and animations are completed. I would also have race specific weapons but not restrict race weapon to race suits or character definitions but Skills as now.
Racial bonuses would be minimal but measurable. Although every single racial bonus should have a counter measure. Much of the OP problems CCP/Shanghai has instigated is because they drop some stupid idea in (Flaylock pistol) that has no possible counter measure (two or three hit kills to a Heavy from 58m).
What CCP/Shanghai doesn't know can fill an encyclopedia but specifics on the FPS and RPG aspects appear to have never been understood. RPG fans will get demoralized when they realize that the lvl 4 of most skills require two weeks of playing to have any hope of getting there. With Boosters some can be done weekly. But when you have a lvl 1 logistics fit you realize that you have 2+M SP needed to get even with the PROTO gear you are currently losing (badly) to there is not a lot of hope nor much reason to keep invested in the game. Much less burn down AUR. And there is little to no reward for lvl 2 or lvl 4. lvl 3 Logi to lvl 5 is 1.9M SP. Ouch.
Their knowledge of the FPS world is also limited but there are more knowledgeable than myself for that side of the puzzle. I know that playing DUST is not nearly as much fun as Borderlands. That is enough for me.
I have several routes I could try to see if they were fun, I won't because I cannot respec SP or a portion of SP or use SP temporarily to see if Scramble Rifles were worth the SP. So I don't. Doing the math on getting to lvl 5 for just a few of my goals means I am going to spend months of grinding before I see the results.
Sorry, but this is just a game. And not a great game at that. It is still 5.5/10, up from 5/10 at Uprising 1.0. |
