Perhaps in order to make drop ships offer better functionality, we could give them Deployable equipment. Like a small infantry sized turret, or a wide area, low replenishing ammo/healing hive? Or uplinks with a small total spawn size? |

As in they could drop it as they're flying overhead. |

Perhaps they could drop a Warhawk bubble shield? Basically like the upcoming deployable shields for infantry except larger. And while we're at it, what if dropships could also give out pulse of energy that either repairs armor or recharges shield (depending on what version you are using) for all friendly infantry within an area of affect?
Darn, this stuff could actually make dropships desirable. Now the question is whether these should fit in module slots or if they should introduce a new vehicle equipment slot. |

Exactly! I was thinking maybe like a turret/hive combo. You spawn your dropship, pick up your squad, fly over to a spot near an objective, hit a button that drops the turret hive and sets off a GTFO MY DROPSHIP alarm, and your dudes now have a defensible point to attack from. Maybe give some wp to the pilot for each kill/rep/ammo refill. You'd have to balance the fudge out of it though. Make it only one per ship, or like ultra slow replenish times. And maybe make a variety? Some help recharge shields, others do armor, others do ammo? |

All I know is that dropships need some love, and I don't fly. I need to see some diversity in this game. The fewer assault rifles/murder taxis, the better.

I want to drop small turrets from my dropship like the ravens from StarCraft II! http://www.team-dignitas.net/uploads/tinymce/images/tinyravenandautoturret.jpg |

First is we need to be able to assign an action to an unused button on the DS3. Which should enable 1 button solutions on a keyboard as well*. That would allow something to be chosen quickly without suicide by the pilot.
The Devs have talked in the past about a small anti-infantry turret for instance. Although dropping a larger Hive or Uplink for Squad/Team use would solve some of the WP problems for DS pilots. I would hate to see what CCP/Shanghai would mess up the Skill Tree to support them however.
Of course, I hate whenever they touch the Skill Tree.
* I have a KB/M connected. I only use the KB for mail and text. The mouse is when I am sniping with a Small Rail Gun Turret. Occasionally I will use the mouse when long range sniping with a sniper rifle. Everything else is DS3. |

I suggested something like this a while ago and it got stomped. When I thought about why it seemed to me the folks that didn't like it had a real point.
Dropships (as they stand now) are first and foremost troupe carriers. Pretty much anything you could drop from a ship (that's doable now) could be done by dropping a mercenary to do the job. Ammo, spawn points, repairs, fire power -- troops can do it.
Structures (cannons, supply depots, etc) have to be hooked to the terrain (right now) at particular places. And as other folks have pointed out, to make them work you'd need changes to the interface and probably the HUD for dropships.
Still, all that is possible -- though maybe not with the current PS3 hardware.
It seems to me that eventually giving players the ability to fly RDVs and drop off not only vehicles but light turrets and light structures when teams get enough points to call them in or if players have them in inventory would work. Even though they couldn't move around, the turrets and structures could be "vehicles" and as a result drop anywhere on the battlefield.
That would give us three classes of craft -- troop transports, attack aircraft. and remote deployment vehicles.
But I'm pretty sure that won't happen unless the game moves to a new platform. From everything I've heard there just isn't enough capability in the PS3 to bring it all off. |

Button mapping would be sexy as hell. As much as I love a well implemented radial menu, this one always feels off. Can they just steal Ratchet and Clanks? I've played around with some miltia vehicles, and trying to pop a module is kinda crappy. I either miss the correct module, or just not hit anything at all and have to try again. Nicht so gut. |

What about an active scanner that you could drop? Like a little radar dish thingy that spiked into the ground, and after a delay started scanning and feeding into tacnet? It would be destroyable by the enemy team, and show up on the mini map of whoever it scanned. |
