there has recently been an upsurge in the use of a certain melee glitch. I'm here to tell you all what a certain OTHER company and their game did to fight off a similar problem.
In the glorious land of TF2, there is a simple little gun called the Pistol. Not the Pretty Boy Pocket Pistol, the Winger, or any big shiny special name gun, just the basic pistol. It is your standard affair of the stock FPS gun, 12 shot, rapidish fire, fast reload, the whole shebang. But for as short time it was used more and got more kills than the Minigun, Shotgun, and Rocket Launcher combined.
Yasee, it fired as fast as you could pull the trigger. Think the TAR, but NO limits. People soon started to use it as a CQC weapon over their melees because they could easily pump enough rounds manually to drop anything short of a Heavy. Solly, second highest HP, has 210 Health. Pistol does 15 or so damage at medium range, more the closer you get. The more damage you did with a gun, the more likely it would 'crit' for a 3x damage boost to reward active shooting. You can see where this leads.
Eventually, people saw how overly powerful the pistol was, and the number of Engineer players SPIKED as he was one of two classes that could equip the pistol. With a store of 212 rounds, a quartersecond reload, and the ability to create dispencers for more ammo and healing, he became the goto character. Eventually, someone decided to make a macro for the fire rate, and then not even HEAVIES(300HP) were safe from the pistol-fueled rage of the Engie.
Soon, the mouse macro evolved into a piece of code they slipped into their client like a custom HUD or skin. It was by this point that Valve had concocted a plan. First, they set a fixed fire rate for the pistol, so it couldn't shoot but so fast. then they inserted a few lines of code to automatically delete the client of anyone who had the Pistol Rapid code, as a way to punish the players who cheated. Finally, they ramped back the accuracy over time of the pistol JUUUUUST a smidgeon, as it was being used more as an SMG than the sniping at weak runners tool it was meant for. Balance was restored, the vile were punished for their crimes, and the world was right. So to those of you whining that it's CCPs fault for making a broken coded melee, remember even VALVE made this mistake.
What should you take away from this? We need three things from CCP. 1. Ceiling on Melee attack rate. 2. Punishment for those using and abusing the programming flaw. 3. A DEV needs to look over melee in its entirety once it has been repaired and see if anything needs to be done to it, buff or nerf. |

They ban the crap out of every Ratbot they find. That said, that's CCP Iceland, not CCP China. |

I can promise you it will all stop.
IP, Console, Account, or Toon ban? Just curious as to how thorough the probation would be. |

CCP is not VALVe.
Not even a patch on them.
They certainly have a nice vindictive streak but that's more of a childish response when asked hard questions rather than dealing out comical justice.
It's unlikely CCP possess the technical skill or superb game design and gameplay balance VALVe demonstrates to fix this without inflicting blunt force trauma over and over until it is kludged into something barely up to par.
Maybe, maybe not, but it doesn't help us to have already given up hope. Even then this isn't CCP, it's CCP Shanghai. We need to hold out for some glimmer or other sign that things will get better or else CharO will have trouble keeping his titles. We need to offer constructive criticism, anecdotes on previous similar situations such as this thread, and most importantly keep the pressure on, keep demanding better service and quality. Try hitting up someone credible and large in the gaming columns like Jim Sterling, or someone who knows how to give it straight linke Angry Joe(doesn't have a PS3 :c)
Now if you will excuse my (mildly off topic) rant, my ******* pet was just murdered so I'm going to take out my aggression on some goddamn clones. |

Could you please elaborate? The link seems a bit irrelevant, especially considering that it is about Microsoft's standpoint on a somewhat tangential issue, and we know CCP's hatred for that kind of thing. |
