DUST just isn't fun or enjoyable enough "just to play" after you've capped out. I only play really to get SP to purchase skills...what's the point of playing once I can't earn high SP because I've capped out?
- There is no point. I have to agree and echo this sentiment. Dust is fun. Don't get me wrong. There was a time I didn't think that, then it clicked with me, I found Logi is my specialty, and the world changed. It's genuinely fun to play now when I'm working toward something. Working for something that makes me better. I surely don't need the money. I generally am isk-positive during the match, and if it's going south, then I change up suits so I can be isk-positive.
So what's left then is playing for the sp. And when I cap, and there effectively is no sp to be had, it's just not fun enough to get splattered by a Logi LAV, Forge-Gun-one-shot, sniped from god knows where, etc. The game is too unforgiving to play for the hell of it or just for the isk.
But I honestly can't wrap my head around that CCP wants the answer to this to be more accounts. Sure, I have an alt account, too, but this doesn't help my main playstyle when I'm not getting "real-world" experience with my main playstyle for an alt's. It doesn't encourage specializing.
I've been thinking about that last point recently. If CCP wants to limit the skillpoint gain over time--to impose limits of maximum sp/week, in order to stop hardcore players from vastly outpacing the casual player or newbro, how, then, do other FPS games stop this? IIRC, I could play CoD all day and never stop gaining ranks. So what is the main difference? Is it that CoD's weapons are all powerful in their own right, sort of some "tiericide" weapon balancing, so even newbros can be as effective as a Vet out the door? I remember preferring one of the "starter" weapons (G36C) over some of the later-unlocked ones. But I remember that even using the starter gun, I was still as effective of when I unlocked the 552 or AK-47.
People have stated before that the increase in relative "power" of the high-sp vet and the just-out-of-the-Academy newbro is too high; that a Vet having really high sp (and thus increased base stats, proto weapons/gear, etc.) greatly outclasses and outguns a new player. I believe this reasoning to be true, and it's because of the way the meta levels work on weapon performance, power, etc. High sp players can afford all proto kit, whereas the new player is in standard or militia gear. Maybe the differences in meta levels ought to be "better" weapons, but better in the sense that they have better scopes or attachments (night vision sight!).
Anyway, sorry to digress. I don't play much after cap. :P |
