Dust was initially being developed on the incredible Carbon engine, with several years of dev time put in.
Then the realization dawned that the PS3 could not handle the game engine, and a replacement was needed. Unreal 3 was chosen.
The devs then needed to re-code the game, in an entirely new engine which did not allow many of the features originally planned on the Carbon version, meaning lots of frustrating time re-tooling the game, while dealing with an anxious player-base as well as publisher (Sony)
It's a lot like that project you made in high school that once time, only to realize the night before it was due that you got everything wrong and scramble to make something that will get you better than a failing grade.
So the next time you feel like b*tching about the game, blaming the Dev's for your in-game misfortunes, or slamming CCP for not meeting your strict guidelines for a great game, remember that the developers have had their work cut out for them too, and they're working hard to make this a game worth playing.
If you want to see DUST become that game, then please use these forums for meaningful discussion and debate, instead of trolling and whining. And if you don't care about the game whatsoever, then just keep your comments to yourself, and go play something else.

It's really a shame that Carbon couldn't work on the PS3. The game would've looked a lot better(although I guess that's why it didn't work on PS3). I don't spend much time in my captain's quarters in Eve, but when I do, it does look gorgeous. |

This is what has always worried me the most.
How exactly does one start development of a game without knowing it'll work on the system you're developing it for....

Yeah gen 1/gen 2 machines have had a hard time circumventing the memory leak issues. Sorry bud.
I just hope that in the future when ps3 s plug gets pulled, carbon DUST is waiting for us on the ps4/5 |

It's like building a Lego castle, everything looks good for the amount of Legos and "ground plates" you've got, until you're about half way through and you're all like efffffff meeeeeee, not enough Legos! |

Is that why there's so many command errors? Because they have to bridge the two engines? |

It's possible. They had quite a few issues with the Carbon engine EVE side when they brought in Incarna. It was so bad that people had graphics cards frying. However, that was mostly an issue with Nvidia physics due to CCPs newness to coding something like that in. |
