I have heard a lot of rumor about shield based heavies coming back into the game and i might have enough skill points banked to skill into them. I have a concern though. Since CCP does such a poor job playtesting everything I am very hesitant to skill into anything new because i fear they might break out their nerf sledgehammer. From what i have heard recently CCP is no longer giving re-specs at all now also. So despite my excitment about the possibility of a heavy suit that might actually have some mobility on the field i fear in a month they might nerf it to be pretty much like the heavy suits i am already skilled into. So i guess really whats a reasonable time to wait before skilling into a new weapon or dropsuit to see if it gets nerfed into the floor? Also can ccp please do something about this? Like i have said before there really are 2 options 1 (my prefered) have a REAL play test server where things can be exploited and broken by a player base to see what works what doesnt and what is OP.or 2 give re-specs any time major changes are made to a weapon, dropsuit or vehicle. |

Depends. They may nerf shielding, so that could be the worst usage of your SP possible. If they don't, that might be a very nice thing, because they high shield output, combined with shields' ability to recharge much faster than armour, would make you a very good unit for fast-action assaults. |

SKill what you like. I for one skilled into shields and armor at the same time. Because you can be sure as hell: Before armor and shields are really balanced there will be a time when armor is much better than shields.
For the future you can expect this:
Armor will make you slow, but shields will take a long time before they recharge. It was announced that they want to buff armor first before they nerf shields and said something about introducing a longer shield recharge delay for using shield extenders. I guess sooner or later we will probably also see something like shields increasing your signature. |

Imagine one guy with flux hitting that shield based heavy. Whoops, down to armor, now die. They already do it to shield tanks with flux/mass driver. |

No. Never skill into anything until you watch the forums for a week after release.
The obsessives will have wasted their SP on it, then discovered the many problems with the design/implementation and they will complain bitterly on these same forums all while demanding a refund for their SP that is now dedicated to A Bad Thing.
The realists will give a more balanced view and will help us make a reasoned response on our own.
All while not having wasted SP on something that might or might not work; Either at all or as intended.

A shield heavy will only be good for long range, which works out well since the forge gunners are loving their stupid tower camping games right now.
Close range = flux range = useless heavy shield.
Why a forge sniper would bother putting points into it when they can already go 20/0 in a basic suit? I dunno. |

This. Shield heavies are gonna be dedicated snipers / forge snipers. 100% long-range combat. Dare get close with a shield heavy and ARs and Scramblers are going to rip you to ribbons, blast holes in you, and then fk you in those holes (because shields are vulnerable to AR and Scrambler weapons.
If you want a decent heavy suit, the upcoming Minmatar Heavy and "Scrambler Cannon" (as I call it, an anti-shield cqc heavy weapon) is your best bet.
The minmatar heavy will likely be less durable than the amarr, but it would probably be much faster, and the new weapon will annihilate medium and smaller infantry. It'll probably make quick work of Shield HAVs too.
This is all assumption. |

Well if the shield heavy ends up being like the shield heavy in beta the up side is that you get much better mobility compared to a standard heavy. Yes there are a lot of things to penetrate shields but even shield heavies still had armor i think it was something like 300 or so. |

Work on core and upgrades, maybe it will be available for militia use and then you can just test it out, not like militia heavies are awful, especially if you have shields and armor maxed out, without extenders or plates I still have 900 HP |

With my sentinal and no extenders i have over 1k between shields and armor. I generally dont use extenders or plates since there is so little upgrade. I normally will use a regulator though to start shield recharge and i never leave home without armor rep since i seem to never be near a logi.
But as it is i dont like to use my heavy in cqc because anyone that knows heavies knows to just straif and we cant keep a bead on them. Course i hear that is changing in 1.4 and straif speed will also be changing so maybe i will be breaking out my hmg for some action again soon. |
