The 2009 demo had them walking around the War Barge in regular clothing, and we'll probably see that eventually. There wouldn't really be a point in allowing us to see our characters' faces right now when they customization system isn't even in yet.

The game does need to be fixed and that needs to be the largest priority. At the same time however, there should be full teams devoted to pumping out brand new content that is completely unrelated to its counter-parts. Let's say one team is devoted to gun mechanics/balance, and another is devoted to something arbitary, for example hats. As we know, gun mechanics are suffering badly right now. How does pulling the people off of hats and sticking them on guns help anybody? Do they understand anything about the guns and the netcode? No. they understand hats. Let them work on hats. On the same ticket, why justify the lack of hats with the thought that everyone is working on gun game and that is more important? Does CCP management expect to actually expand the Dust universe by only working on one aspect of the game at a time? Because if they do, we have a rather severe problem.

Eve clones are created under a clone contract and are created with the clone owner's dna. In Dust, you don't own your clones. For practical purposes, your team shares clones and for that you have generic, identical clones that you pop your consciousness into and wrap a suit around it before sending it into battle. Your clone in your merc quarters might just be a white, bald, brown eyed boring slab of meat just like everyone else's character. Also, the Eve characters that you see in the character portraits are created using the Carbon engine. In Eve, this engine is used for both character creation and captains quarters. It's really a fantastic character model with some great simulation techniques, but it's not ported over to the PS3 yet, and it might not be able to be ported over and retain the same amount of quality. It wouldn't make sense right now to implement an Unreal based character creator in Dust and have the Dust portraits look ****** compared to the same Eve character portraits when they're supposed to be in the same universe. Also, I can't give any specifics on coding limitations because there might be some aspects of Carbon that could be optimized, and it might be easier to port over because Carbon is mostly Python based and a lot of Dust is also Python based. But with how long it took for them to develop Carbon for Eve, it might be a lot of work that CCP might have to go through just to add a character creator, and anyone who's played Eve should know what happened the last time CCP spend a year focusing on a glorified character creator. (Hint: Lots of people were fired.)
