according to the patch notes
"* The HMG Operation skill bonus has been changed from reducing heat build-up to reducing recoil by 5% per level"
so they will be removing the 3% reduction to HMG heat build up per level or 15%
we don't know what level they will leave the heat build up cause at the full skill tree the heat build up is manageable at the far end of bullet capacity.
However if they completely remove the 15% bonus and we are back to the basic or beginner level heat build up then that is going to be a huge nerf to the Hmg. if I remember correctly you over heat at 100-130 bullets before you go into a frozen state for 8 seconds where you cant defend yourself, no melee, nades, sidearm just vulnerable for 8 seconds while you pound the hmg.
not having a skill to bring this down will make the hmg a frustrating weapon to enjoy. so the question to ccp is what level of over heat will you be leaving the hmg at?

I swear to allah ccp if you screw me on my HMG with overheat just cause you thought you had a brilliant friggin idea, when we have never complained about recoil on the HMG, I will find a way to make you pay.

Use MH-82 or Boundless and you'll be fine. MH-82 you'd need to be a bit careful with, but it's near physically impossible overheat a Boundless in its current state. I'm pretty sure I'll adjust in a match or two, and the much lower kick will be nice.
Basic HMG, yes, will overheat like a Husky in the Everglades.

Of course it is. The HMG doesn't have that much recoil. Should have feedback damage so that sentinel bonus is useful...lol.

but right now we have a 15% decrease to the overheat skill tree , yes they are perfect right now but take away that skill tree and what happens? play an alt without those skills and you will see what im talking about. unfortunately the only way to get higher tiered weapons is to skill this lower hmg overheat |

Well, quite literally, you get 15% fewer shots off before overheating. (If you don't feather the trigger, that is.)
But in theory, more of those shots will connect with the reduced kick. It's a tradeoff, but it looks like a good trade in my book.
It only takes about a tenth of an HMG clip to make a single person dead, a bit more than that for an opposing heavy. The basic HMG overheads when I'm more than halfway through a clip now, I imagine it'll overheat almost exactly halfway through a clip after 1.4.
So you have to be a bit more strategic about mowing down crowds, but for individual engagements it shouldn't matter at all if you can aim.
Boundless, I still don't see myself ever overheating. It's hard to overheat that thing. After the patch, it'll feel about the way that the MH-85 does currently. |

My only issue with any of this is that using a prototype weapon in a match just to keep the overheat down will become extremely pricey, especially to any new HMG users. And someone with a basic HMG will laugh profusely after getting shot up because they are pounding away at the basic HMG just to get it to take down one of these protobears we see so frequently running around. Expect even less heavies as this update progresses.

the TL;DR is that everyone who knew what they were doing ignored the kick on the HMG anyway. So all we really get is a heat nerf.

I cant say the kick ever bother me. however now we will over heat long before the kick would have had much of an effect any way |

If you mastered the HMG you already know how to ignore the recoil/kick while not losing an noticeable ROF and still firing till the gun overheats if you want.
So difficult? extremely difficult? I dont know what the heck you are talking about but it cant be the HMG. |

it just seems like a t typical patch 1 step forward two steps backward. surely they considered the heat build up into removing the sill tree entirely right or is this just a lol ccp screw up? |

*shrug*
If you mastered the HMG, you knew how to not overheat even the basic gun. 15% is a noticeable change, but it isn't a huge one. You'll still be able to turn several people into red paste before overheating with the damage it spits out. |

pretty sure everyone who went through closed beta knows the very first thing you skilled into with the hmg was the reduction in overheating I wonder why? cause it is a total pain in the ass locking up for 8 seconds when you need to keep firing.
im just trying to head off the backlash this will cause. im sure most heavies here would be happy to leave the kick where it is to have the hmg overheat skill stay where it is. |

A nerf is still a nerf. I dont really worry about overheating, but thats not exactly the point. They ARE nerfing us AGAIN. For NO REASON. |

Recoil was minimal already. If it started to get away from you, all you had to do was let off of the trigger. Better yet, just feather it until you have your target "locked in" then let death rain sideways. Now, you're almost encouraged to overheat it with no need to stop shooting. If it was a seperate skill, I would avoid it. But the turn speed buff and hit detection fixes should keep me from needing to randomly spray while I turn to catch a Medium or Light or overspraying because nothing is registering. Thus, reducing the amount of time on the trigger and heat build up.
Before anybody gets their panties in a knot, remember that it's all theory at this point and things aren't always delivered as advertised. |
