I have been here since the beginning. I have played both Betas, have commented, have tried to understand the nature of the beast that CCP is building and still do not have any belief that this is going to be a part of a persistent Universe. Under all the marketing and Free to play mumbo jumbo we still have several common themes that persist even though CCP has stated it will not be Pay To Win. The constant remake of the packs with aurum items being sold to new players and old alike. Why would I want a Codewash Duvolle when I can use the real Duvolle?
I play Eve as well as Dust. Eve is based on open world design philosophy, while Dust is still spinning around in circles in the 3 basic game modes it has had since Open Beta. Not only do we have a small number of options for the type of game we play but the understanding of developers about what Ambush means leaves something to be desired. The Ambush mode is basically a whole bunch of mercs spawned randomly all over the map with no secret that there is an ambush going on. I know we discussed these things in the past but CCP needs to revisit these details about how we engage our enemy in Dust and maybe take a day or so to play PlanetSide2 (free on Steam) to see what it means for an "open world" game. When I moved over from Eve to Dust I originally believed that we would be getting Open World design and seeing a map full of mercs duking it out for the long haul sometimes hours at a time to control territory as we do on Eve. Boy was I ever wrong.
I am at a crossroads, one where we either start to see more innovation from Devs or I walk away. As a player who has seen the metamorphosis from Closed Beta to now I feel that many of our hopes as a community for this game have been stepped on and squashed. We need the freedom to truly Ambush people while out doing missions or attempting to Dominate a map or halt an MCC from reaching its dock on the planet, to save the day and to milk the tears. 15 minutes of match time is not enough and neither is 20 or 30 minutes but rather make this a truly unique game and fix it to be a shooter in the manner that Eve is a shooter. With missions, with Open World, with Exploration and Rewards for finding stuff and for holding onto a piece of the map that is key for a desired faction to win.
Finish the product lines you promised with the Heavy Suits and Rifles sitting in your closets they will never get used. Where are the speeders and Black Ops HAVs? I am not asking for everything all at once but feel that after the extremely long Beta period and extensive testing we have continued to do for CCP this still feels like a Beta Game, unfinished and unpolished. My continuing belief that this game does not represent any significant connection between DUST and Eve is due to the fact that PC is in but one region of Eve, there is no player market and Eve players have yet to make a SINGLE module that I can use on my dropsuit. Please gain some focus, I am not the only person saying this, this has been stated in more than one thread and no matter how much Aurum based gear you give us it will not change. Buy us back as customers with some real improvements. I have been here from the beginning and see that very little has changed other than some balance issues resolved and I know you can do better than this CCP.
Best regards CCP and all your fans, I love this game and have given my time and money to it freely in the past, --Draco Cerberus |

One additional thing, a new map is not a new game mode, it is a start but not a new game mode. |

*Sarcastic Humor in good fun*- What do you mean not a new game mode!?! It has new terrain sockets and everything!! And more areas to get hung up on.
Seriously though, an open world environment with PvE and PvP components would be extremely appealing!! at least in my mind. Much more dynamic and would hold players attention better. Could include an 'arena' to enter which would take you to the instant battles. Anywho, that is getting off topic/hijacking of original post.

I don't really want to see dev resources dedicated to remaking Dust as open world for quite a long time (years). I don't think Dust was ever intended to be an open world game, and I don't think making it one is crucial to its success. Developing the link between Dust and Eve is critical, but that does not require at all making Dust into Eve. By this I mean Dust should not try to provide 1,000 different things to do and a 1,000 places to explore in an open world.
Dust needs
bigger battlefields supporting more players Dust influence in Eve to spread beyond FW zones and MH Iterations on FW Information and tasks currently viewable only through Eve to be accessible through Dust (corp histories, standings, etc)
Integration into eve economy -Eve players need to want to have Dust mercs fighting for them, Eve players pay in isk or materials (imo Eve sov structures, planetary customs offices, planetary interaction are prime targets) -Dust weaponry/equipment to be produced in and purchased from Eve, Dust doesn't need its own manufacturing system (at least not a full fledged one) -wall between space isk and dust isk brought down -Dust mercs should need Eve characters for certain services -strategic resource for Eve generated/influenced by Planetary Conquest
PVE in Dust could even be a part of it too, but none of these needs Dust to turn into an open-world exploration game or otherwise change its core gameplay from the lobby-shooter model. Some modes for testing and scrimmages would be nice as well, but this doesn't seem to be the kind of thing you're asking for. |

Dust is an FPS that was originally marketed as Open World MMORPGFPS to the Eve players brought into the Closed Beta. Now we have COD 514, almost because even COD has a PVE mode. Planetside 2 has Open World battles able to support up to 2000 players in a single firefight. Dust has 16vs16. Why not crucify the competition by doing both and combining that with the ability to travel with Eve players and explore on planets for lost tech or even for NPE rats (mobs/monsters/bad guys) to kill. I like every thing else in your post sir but feel that the Open World is key to making Dust a success.

+1 to this and the OP.
I am not an EVE player but I am fairly well aware of it and Dust has made me much more interested to the point of considering to play EVE. That said...everything you described in the quoted post is exactly what came to mind when I heard of the DUST/EVE shared game universe.
Ref. the OP...very articulate and coherent discussion points. Conur with everything but the Open World piece; it's not that I disagree if it's a good idea, I just think you're talking about a radically different game than Dust. I suspect a hybrid style Open World / FPS uber-map might work. Either way...great post, great threa.

PS...Open world is the real deal for this game. I'm not sure how that works with hundreds of different worlds in the galaxy map which to my limited understanding is only small part of New Eden. |

It probably doesn't even have to span a whole planet, but a large map kilometers large for a lot of the planets would feel open worldly enough for me. Just something that would get us away from these lobby matches, it's too much grind.
