Django Quik wrote:lol at people thinking Nestli doesn't know how to play a scout. I agree with Django. Nestil's been with us for awhile, so before we rule on whether or not he's "doing it wrong", kindly consider the following:
- Nestil joined the Registry on July 12th as a Tier II Scout w/around 3000 Kills.
- In the 40 days since, he has doubled his KillCount and is now mid-Tier III.
- In Uprising 1.2, Nestil's KDR increased from 2.0 (community average) to 2.22 (above average).
- Throughout 1.3, Nestil's KDR has continued to incline; he's currently well above average at a 2.48.
Statistically speaking, Nestil is "playing Scout" better than most, so his concern -- in my humble opinion -- is likely with merit. I tend to agree with him that our Proto variants are too expensive to justify regular use. We pay the same price per suit as proto Heavies and proto Mediums. These beasts have 2-3 times our eHP and are generally invulnerable unless they screw up. We, on the other hand, die at CoD speed on detection, rendering Isk efficiency an uncommon occurrence even against newberries.
My two cents.

Aero Yassavi wrote: Because the scout class bonus of reduced profile signature is meaningless with the current 10m scan radius, I don't know why anyone would spend 2.7 million skill points for the proto scout when you could get the proto light for 1.2 million skill points.
Benefits: Scouts suits are cheaper than their Light-Frame counterparts. Light-Frames are immune to most Active Scanners; reduced profile signature renders you immune to more. For Gallente CQC Scouts, the passive scan bonus combined with long-range scanning is useful. For Minja CQC Scouts, the passive NK bonus is pretty dang cool, though these guys make hardmode look easy.
If you're a mid-range or long-range Scout, there's little point in skilling into Scout at the moment. |

I did a fair bit of testing before my re-spec (I was amongst those who got it _really_ late), and even with maxed scanner skills, proto gallente scout and all slots filled with proto scanning modules it wasn't useful at all. Things could have changed since then, but I doubt it. EDIT: ...anyway, gallente scouts should get enough range from the suit bonus and scanner skills alone. Hell, all lights and scouts should. One more thing that was better in Chromosome :P.
I agree. Proto Gal Scouts are weak at everything and masters at nothing...
Gear up for eWar, and you serve no purpose in combat. Gear up for Speed, and you'll get mowed down by ARs and MDs anyway. Gear up for Tanking, and you'll move slower AND have less eHP than a Medium.
I'm not saying CQC Proto GalScouts are good, but the passive bonus does help us suck ever-so-slightly less hard.

This just in!
Shared squad sight has been disabled. We Scouts just got a role, people! Maybe that new proto Scout suit of yours will be worth pulling out afterall.

Marc Rime wrote: Do you really get that kind of range? I didn't. What I meant above was that the _passive scanner_ was useless, despite having done everything possible to boost its range.
Sure do, bro. Math ain't purty, but she don't lie.
If you're looking for a subjective perspective, I'm much more aware of my surroundings when running one Enhanced Range Amplifier on my Lvl(5) GalScout. Stacking Complex Range Amplifiers isn't advisable; you won't be able to fit anything else.
